Joe Cocker is, without a doubt, a true musical legend. With 40 years and counting as a major player in the music business, the singer with that unmistakable bluesy soul voice has earned countless accolades for his artistry—Grammys, Golden Globes, Academy Awards and platinum selling albums worldwide.

The iconic singer is now signed to 429 Records in North America and HARD KNOCKS - his 21st album, will be available from January 24th. HARD KNOCKS is a collection of 9 all-new songs plus a cover version of the Dixie Chicks’ “I Hope.”

Produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox 20, Carlos Santana), “HARD KNOCKS” has the timeless “Cocker” sound fusing soul, pop and rhythm and blues into an undeniably infectious mix of a singularly unique contemporary style.

The first single, title track “Hard Knocks,” has been racing up the AC Radio charts reaching #19* last week. Cocker will also be interviewed on a forthcoming edition of NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday—date TBD. Those purchasing the album on iTunes will receive a special bundle which includes the CD, a digital booklet and an exclusive live video of “Hard Knocks.”

The recording sessions took place in Serletic’s own Emblem studios in Los Angeles involving a host of acclaimed musicians like Ray Parker Jr., Tim Pierce and Joel Shearer on guitar, Josh Freese, Matt Chamberlain and Dorian Crozier on drums, Chris Chaney on bass and Jamie Muhoberac on keyboards. The songs were mixed by Chris Lord-Alge and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Songwriters Kara Dioguardi of recent American Idol fame and Marc Broussard have contributed songs to the collection.

Says Cocker, “I don’t really know what you would call this album: ‘rock/pop’? It’s a little more pop than I’ve been into for quite a while so it would scare me sometimes. I would do the basic tracks and then Matt would go away and do some of these overdubs and he had all these electronic things on there. It was sometimes like ‘Oh, my god!’. But I wanted to work with Matt very much. And I always knew what kind of record we would be making.”

Track listing:

Hard Knocks

Get On

Unforgiven

The Fall

So It Goes

Runaway Train

Stay The Same

Thankful

So

I Hope

On February 28 , EMI will release ‘Immersion’ and ‘Experience’ editions of Roger Waters’ opus, Pink Floyd ‘The Wall,‘as the final installment of the recent ‘Why Pink Floyd?’ reissues and extended releases. ‘The Wall’ remains Pink Floyd’s biggest-selling release after 1973′s legendary ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon.’

Released in November 1979, ‘The Wall’ topped the album charts in the US, France, Germany, Sweden and Australia. “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2″ – Pink Floyd’s first UK single since 1968 – became a Number 1 hit, selling more than one million copies within weeks of its release.

Between 1980 and 1981, Pink Floyd staged 31 performances of The Wall in the US, UK and Germany. It was a spectacular show that included a 40-foot wall, constructed, brick by brick, across the front of the stage during the performance. In 2010 and 2011 Roger Waters toured a new production of The Wall to huge international acclaim. He was joined onstage in May 2011 at London’s 02 Arena by guitarist, David Gilmour and drummer, Nick Mason. He continues to tour in the Southern Hemisphere and North America in 2012.

‘The Wall’ ‘Immersion’ 7-disc edition includes a DVD featuring a film clip from the 1980 tour and a ‘Behind The Wall’ documentary, plus, for the first time, CDs of excerpts from Roger Waters’ original demos and work-in-progress versions of songs on the final album. Additionally, among these previously unheard versions are David Gilmour’s original demos of “Comfortably Numb” and “Run Like Hell.” The Immersion set also includes The Wall Live, compiled from the 1980-1981 original tour.

Both ‘The Wall’ Immersion box set and Experience edition include a rare recording of “Another Brick In The Wall Part 1.” A highlight for fans, this demo showcases the evolution of the final track. Additionally, “The Doctor” explores the origins of the landmark track “Comfortably Numb,” giving further insight into Pink Floyd’s early demo recordings.

Following on from the ‘Immersion’ and ‘Experience’ editions of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ and ‘Wish You Were Here,’ these new versions of ‘The Wall’ offer listeners a unique insight into another hugely successful chapter in the Pink Floyd story.

In 1978, after finishing Pink Floyd’s Animals stadium tour, Roger Waters devised the concept for the album ‘The Wall.’ The album is a partly autobiographical story about a fictional rock star named Pink looking back at his early life and reflecting on the nature of fame and success.

Waters presented his band mates David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason with an extensive demo of songs. Pink Floyd recorded their eleventh album ‘The Wall’ throughout 1979 in France, New York and Los Angeles, assisted by co-producer, Bob Ezrin and engineer, James Guthrie.

An adjunct to the sessions was the famous addition of a group of pupils from London’s Islington Green School, who recorded their backing vocals (“We don’t need no education…”) on “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2″ at Pink Floyd’s own Britannia Row Studios in London. This became the world’s introduction to the album with the release of its first single, an instant success, accompanied by a promotional film which included several of the groundbreaking images from the story, including Gerald Scarfe’s brilliantly realized marching hammers.

Pink Floyd: ‘The Wall’ Immersion box set, Experience edition and Collectors 180g 2LP Vinyl edition will be released February 28, 2012 through EMI. The 2CD remastered Discovery edition is out now.

Now complementing The Beatles’ music library in iTunes is a new tablet-friendly guide to the Fab Four’s music catalog.

The app was created by Rolling Stone, thanks in part to vjoon K4 and the integrated Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) as production tools and digital publishing specialist Managing Editor Inc. (MEI). vjoon, a leading provider of cross-media publishing platforms and a global reseller of Adobe DPS right from the start, announced that Wenner Media has now released its iPad app version of “The Beatles Ultimate Album-by-Album Guide” special-interest publication.

Wenner, the publisher of Rolling Stone and other popular magazines, is using vjoon K4 to manage the project from soup to nuts. MEI designed an iPad publishing workflow that operates alongside Wenner’s print process – Rolling Stone has been managed with the vjoon K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform since 2008 – tapping into an all-new medium using existing content and familiar tools.

“With vjoon K4 we were able to implement a workflow that really highlights our traditional design and editorial strengths, but also helps us enhance that content by adapting it to a new platform,” said Paul Leung, system administrator for Wenner Media.

vjoon K4′s industry-leading connectivity with Adobe DPS also made this project much easier. By managing most of the project – including its interactive elements – within the vjoon K4 database, MEI enabled an efficient process for Wenner to port its print-based special-interest publication as a rich iPad app. The app was even bundled for release directly within vjoon K4, thanks to the deep integration with Adobe DPS. Another of the many ways vjoon K4 enhances productivity is by substituting automated processes for routine manual chores, such as automatically converting layout pages into tablet format. This allows publishers to focus on creative tasks.

Wenner Media looked to MEI’s team of digital-publishing specialists to help build the app using a combination of custom development and Adobe DPS. MEI guided the production process, including training on the Adobe DPS software, editorial workflow development, template creation, app construction and final submission to Apple.

“MEI worked closely with us to make sure the app captured all the great information from our print product and expanded it with immersive and visually appealing tablet features,” said Paul Leung. “Their expertise and custom development were integral to the success of this project.”

“The Beatles Ultimate Album-by-Album Guide” is a comprehensive companion to the 13 albums released by the legendary rock group. For each recording, the app provides a main article, a playlist with audio samples and a link to purchase the tracks, an extra “Testimonial” story, pictures and more. It takes the wealth of Beatles history showcased in Rolling Stone’s original print album guide and transforms it into a full-featured iPad experience, enhanced with interactivity and engaging content only available in the tablet version.

MEI engineered the specialized audio playlist, which streams song samples directly from iTunes. Not only does this make for a convenient user experience, allowing readers to instantly hear and purchase the music they’re learning about, it also provides a new revenue stream for Wenner – as part of Apple’s Affiliate Program, the publisher gets a percentage of iTunes sales made through the app. MEI also played a major role in the iPad publication’s layout by helping Wenner build templates and implement interactive features using Adobe DPS, including multi-state objects, hyperlinks and touch-activated buttons.

“We expect this app to be a huge hit, and we’re excited that vjoon K4 played a part in its creation,” said Andreas Schrader, CEO at vjoon. “During the production process the profound, substantiated and long-term integration of vjoon K4 with Adobe DPS paid off. It facilitated the production process very much.”

“The Beatles Ultimate Album-by-Album Guide” is now available in the iTunes store. Download it by visiting http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rolling-stones-beatles-album/id479662151?mt=8.

The Rolling Stones are set to delight their millions of fans, and another generation of new admirers, as they unveil a treasure trove of vintage unreleased material from the ‘Some Girls’ era of 1978.

Comprising an entire album of fresh material, the songs form the second disc on the deluxe edition of the band’s seminal, multi-million-selling 1978 album Some Girls, which is released on November 21. It follows the massive worldwide success and acclaim for Universal’s 2010 reissue of the Stones’ hallowed 1972 set ‘Exile On Main St.’

The appearance of the unreleased tracks on the deluxe ‘Some Girls’ means that after listening to such gems from the original album as ‘Miss You,’ ‘Far Away Eyes,’ ‘Before They Make Me Run’ and ‘Beast Of Burden,’ fans can enjoy a whole new set of contemporaneous work by the Stones. A fresh and compelling collection in its own right, it’s also the perfect complement to one of the band’s best-ever albums.

The unreleased tracks mostly feature performances by the whole band – Mick Jagger on lead vocals, piano, guitars and harmonica; Keith Richards on guitars, piano, harmony vocals (and lead vocal on ‘We Had It All’); Ronnie Wood on pedal steel, electric and slide guitar; and the vintage Stones engine room of Bill Wyman on bass and Charlie Watts on drums.

Produced by the Glimmer Twins, Chris Kimsey and Don Was, the material also includes guest appearances by Stones diehards Ian Stewart and Chuck Leavell on pianos, harmonica player Sugar Blue (who also provided the unforgettable motif on the ‘Some Girls’ smash ‘Miss You’), and for trivia freaks even handclaps on one song by former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty.

The collection includes a wealth of fine Jagger-Richards compositions along with some fascinating cover versions, collectively reflecting the stripped-down rock ‘n’ roll, blues and country flavours of the famed 1978 album. ‘So Young,’ ‘When You’re Gone’ (co-written by Ronnie Wood), ‘Keep Up Blues’ and ‘Petrol Blues’ all evoke the band’s enduring rhythm and blues roots. ‘Don’t Be A Stranger’ is an infectious shuffle and ‘Love You Too Much’ an archetypal Stones rocker.

‘Do You Think I Really Care,’ with its lyrical imagery of New York City, and the mid-tempo road tale ‘No Spare Parts’ dovetail with ‘Far Away Eyes’ and the ‘Some Girls’ title track in reflecting the band’s longtime love of country music. No Spare Parts will be released as a single.

As if all of that wasn’t enough to keep the hungriest Stones fan happy, there are three exceptional interpretations to add to their long list of distinguished cover versions. Keith takes the lead vocals on ‘We Had It All,’ written by the great Southern songwriters Troy Seals and Donnie Fritts and recorded by such country greats as Waylon Jennings and Conway Twitty. There’s a rocking take on Freddy Cannon’s 1959 favourite ‘Tallahassee Lassie’ and an assured version of the Hank Williams standard ‘You Win Again.’

“It’s wonderful to see the quality of these tracks measuring up to the songs that came out on the original album,” says Ronnie Wood. “It’s an extension of what was going on then,” adds Keith Richards. “Sometimes great stuff gets left behind and its great to see it out there.”

Formed in 1971, Queen (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon) signed their first recording contract with EMI in late 1972. In July 1973, Queen released their first single ‘Keep Yourself Alive’, followed closely by their debut album, Queen. 1974 saw the release of the band’s second album, Queen II, containing their first hit single ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’ which charted in the UK at number 10. This was followed by a second hit single (their first US hit), ‘Killer Queen’, taken from the Sheer Heart Attack album, followed later in the year by a major UK tour.

1975 saw the release of the epic single ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, taken from A Night at the Opera. At 5′ 55″ it should have been too long for successful radio play, but even so it went to No. 1 in the UK chart and stayed there for an unprecedented nine consecutive weeks, becoming one of the greatest singles of all time. In 1977, Queen issued the single ‘We Are The Champions’ coupled with ‘We Will Rock You’. Both songs would soon become among the band’s most popular and best loved of their career – and long after. ‘The Champions/Rock You’ pairing is one of the most famous and most played in the world. The single was followed by the release of Queen’s sixth album, News of the World, from which they come, in October 1977. From then on, the band released album after album, and toured all over Europe, Japan, the U.S. and South America. At the end of 1981 the band teamed up with David Bowie for the single that was to become one of their biggest worldwide hits, and one of the most covered and sampled of all Queen songs, ‘Under Pressure’. 1984 saw the single ‘Radio Ga Ga’ from The Works become a worldwide hit, reaching No. 1 in 19 countries.

1986 saw the 12th album, A Kind Of Magic, effectively the soundtrack to the Russell Mulcahy film, ‘Highlander’. The album returned the band to No.1 on the charts in many territories. Queen toured Europe throughout the year, culminating with two legendary concerts at Wembley Stadium, and their biggest ever in the UK, an open air show at Knebworth Park, in August. Unbeknown at the time, this was to be Queen’s last ever concert with Freddie Mercury.

In 1991, Queen’s last true studio album with Freddie, Innuendo, was released in February. Both the title track single and the album entered the charts at No.1 on their first week of release in the UK. The last track released as a single, ‘The Show Must Go On’ came in November 1991, just weeks before Freddie Mercury would lose his struggle with HIV AIDS.

On 23rd November 1991 Freddie Mercury announced to the world that he had AIDS and the next day he died peacefully at his home. He remains the most high profile loss from the disease in the entertainment world and the news shocked fans throughout the world. As a tribute ‘Bohemian Rhapsody /These Are The Days Of Our Lives’ was released as a double A-sided single to raise funds for the Terence Higgins Trust. It entered the UK chart at No. 1, where it stayed for five weeks, raising over £1,000,000 for the charity, and Queen became the first band to have the same single top the UK charts twice. In December of that year Queen had 10 albums in the UK Top 100. In 1992 Freddie was awarded posthumously the BRIT’s “Outstanding Contribution to British Music” and ‘Days Of Our Lives’ won Best Single. In April, many of the world’s top stars joined Brian, Roger and John on stage at Wembley for an emotional tribute to Freddie.

In 1995 the unreleased tracks Queen had begun in 1991 with Freddie were completed by Brian, Roger and John and the long-awaited Made in Heaven was released worldwide, to huge acclaim and success. It was the last Queen album ever to feature Freddie, and it was the end of an era.

In May 2002 the hit musical We Will Rock You opened to sell-out audiences in London’s West End. The show has seen local productions staged throughout the world, including Spain, Australia, Germany, Russia, Italy, Japan, South Asia, Las Vegas, Canada and across Europe. To date more than 12 million people have seen the show.

In October 2002, Queen received their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining The Beatles as one of only a handful of non-US bands to receive this much coveted honor. In 2004 Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Walk of Fame, and was also voted by the UK public into the first UK Music Hall of Fame. From 2005 to 2008, Brian and Roger took Queen onto the touring circuit again, for the first time since 1986, joined by former Free/Bad Company singer, songwriter and musical Paul Rodgers, playing concerts across the UK, Europe, North and South America and Japan.

Alice Coper, the founding father of modern horror rock music, explodes onto the Billboard 200 this week landing at #22.

With a music career that started more than 42 years ago, Alice Cooper sits squarely on the charts with current artists such as Lady Gaga, Primus, Bush, and Beyonce. This amazing achievement for one of music’s most influential artists proves the relevance and popularity of Alice Cooper today. This debut marks Cooper’s highest charting release in over 20 years, and since the incorporation of SoundScan as a method of tracking album sales. The album also debuted on SoundScan’s Hard Music Albums chart at #6 and Rock Albums chart at #11.

Released on September 13, 2011, by Universal Music Enterprises, Welcome 2 My Nightmare is the long-awaited sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare . From the opener, “I Am Made Of You,” through the already established live favorite and first single “I’ll Bite Your Face Off”(which is currently #2 at Classic Rock Radio), to the surprising duet with Ke$ha, “What Baby Wants,” this album is a testament to Cooper’s ability to incorporate various musical collaborations into his own unique musical style.

Welcome 2 My Nightmare is the long-awaited sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome to My Nightmare . The original album was a landmark album for Cooper. It was his first solo release, following a historic string of anthems written and recorded by the original band between 1971 and 1974, including “School’s Out,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “Elected,” and “I’m Eighteen.” Welcome to My Nightmare is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneered a U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence continues today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.

Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who also produced the original multi-platinum album in 1975, Welcome 2 My Nightmare picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

Collaborators on the new album include: the original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith reunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Ke$ha; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice’s current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.

In the midst of his “No More Mr. Nice Guy” world tour, Cooper played a special club show at the Whisky a Go-Go on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, with newest member of the band, eminent guitar prodigy Orianthi. This was the first time Cooper had been back on the Sunset Strip in 40 years. Special guests Ke$ha and Robby Krieger (the Doors) joined him on stage for a special treat for fans.

In addition to his worldwide touring schedule, Alice Cooper, who single-handedly masterminded the rock-horror genre, spins his new collection of disturbing horror imagery in “Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare,” an outrageous new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event launches on September 23 and continues on select nights through October 31. Inspired by Cooper’s landmark concept album Welcome To My Nightmare and its sequel Welcome 2 My Nightmare, the new attraction takes guests on a terrifying trip through Alice Cooper’s twisted mind, where his most famous songs, bizarre themes and demented characters collide inside a living horror movie.

Alice Cooper’s Worldwide “No More Mr. Nice Guy” 2011 Tour Continues :

Considered by Pete Townshend himself to be the Who album that he is most proud of, ‘Quadrophenia’ is the last album in the Who back catalogue to be given the deluxe treatment and is perhaps the most deserving.

After the 1971 album ‘Who’s Next’, Pete Townshend returned to the ‘rock-opera’ concept, so dramatically realized through ‘Tommy’, with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy – QUADROPHENIA tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band’s early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today.

The full details and track-listing for the forthcoming ‘Director’s Cut’ reissue of ‘Quadrophenia’ are released for the first time below and Pete Townshend has opened his personal archive for the very first time for the release, stating that:

“The time has come for me and my team to honour ‘Quadrophenia’ with a carefully presented package that features examples of the impact surround sound (quadrophonic) would have on the music, to remaster the vinyl mixes, and to collect and restore my demos. I am also going to try to shed some light on the way ‘Quadrophenia’ came about, and how it was inspired by events in my life in 1970 and 1971 when I scribbled or typed the very first notes and lyrics for some of the songs that made it onto the final record.’

‘Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut’ will be the definitive version of the album and a must for any self-respecting fan of The Who and beyond.

The super-deluxe limited edition box set will feature the following exclusive content:

Discs one and two – the original double album – 2011 remaster

Also features Pete’s in depth, track-by-track guide to the demos and revealing studio diary.

After the 1971 album Who’s Next, Pete Townshend returned to the “rock-opera” concept, so dramatically realized through “Tommy,” with another ambitious double-album masterpiece.

Based around the story of Jimmy, QUADROPHENIA tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band’s early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today.

The project was intended to reflect the four characters of the Who and features some of Townshend’s most inspired, personal songwriting—way ahead of its time in scope and purpose.

This is one of the most widely recognized albums of the Who’s career because of its classic depiction of mod culture, its renowned imagery and the magnificent music and powerful performances.

The album is hugely significant in popular culture, influencing many other artists, musicians and film-makers – inspiring the classic 1979 British film by Franc Roddam and the U.K. “mod revival” of the 1970s.

“This 2011 revisit to the Who’s 1973 ‘Quadrophenia’ recording is inspired by current and continuing interest in the project,” explains Townshend. “The Who performed a concert version of the piece at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 for the Teenage Cancer Trust with excellent reviews, and the success of that event led to the prospect of a Who tour in 2012 based on the album. The last such tour was between 1996-1997.”

The album is scheduled for release via Universal Music Enterprises in November 2011. The box set gives a unique insight into the creation of this landmark album and will feature a remaster of the original double album, Pete Townshend’s previously unheard demos including songs that didn’t make it onto the original album, an exclusive eight-track 5.1 sound DVD, a deluxe hardback book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia and other exclusive material that will be announced over the coming months.

Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut will be the definitive version of the album and a must for any self-respecting fan of the Who—and beyond.

To accompany the box set, double vinyl, a 2-CD digi-pak and digital versions will also be released.
