Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation establishes a $5 million endowment fund for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York will create a $5 million endowment fund to ensure the nonprofit museum experience always remains vibrant. The fund was generated by proceeds from the history-making Rock and Roll Hall of Fame anniversary concerts held at Madison Square Garden in October 2009 with a lineup of legendary artists from Jerry Lee Lewis to Bono.

“Rock and roll is an art form, and arguably one of the most accessible art forms that is well known and loved around the world,” said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “This gift is also about the artists’ endorsement of the Museum’s mission: to celebrate and preserve the art form and to provide education activities to inform the public about its worldwide impact.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has been the largest single contributor to the Museum and its support has been instrumental in the success of the Cleveland landmark. The Foundation has leveraged its presence in one of the major world capitals to bring artists to Cleveland and to create fundraising opportunities. In the past five years, the Foundation has contributed more than $13 million to the Museum in Cleveland, including annual support for capital improvements, $8 million gift toward the Capital Campaign, $1 million gift to develop a long-term digital strategy and a complete redesign of the Museum’s website.

“This support from the New York Foundation helps ensure that we will continue to thrive and I want to thank them for this very generous gift,” said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The endowment gift comes at a time that the Rock Hall is within $1.5 million of completing an ambitious $35 million Campaign for the Rock Hall. The capital campaign will support a Museum redesign and the construction and operation of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Library and Archives in downtown Cleveland.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tells the story of rock and roll through its exhibits, education and public programs. Throughout its fifteen year history, the Rock Hall has educational activities such as the Museum’s nationally-recognized Rockin’ the Schools, On The Road (Distance Learning), award-winning Toddler Rock and upcoming Rock and Popular Music Institute programs. More than 8 million people from all 50 states and 100 countries have visited the Museum.

Now that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has established a sustainable long-term model, is nearing completion of the Campaign for the Rock Hall and finalizing plans for the Library and Archives and Museum redesign, the focus will shift to raising long-term funds like this generous endowment gift to help secure the Museum in perpetuity.

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERTS

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Fall 2009 with a once-in-a-lifetime concert event over two days at Madison Square Garden. The Shows – which include Tom Hanks paying homage to Cleveland’s Rock Hall – was broadcast on HBO, will be released on a Time-Life DVD on September 28, 2010 and will be rebroadcast on other television networks around the world. The 25th Anniversary concerts celebrated the 25 year history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and served to raise funds to create an endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. The endowment will be further supported by proceeds from DVD sales of the Time-Life Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts.

No wind, no rain, no motorcycle mishaps can stop Aerosmith’s “Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock Tour” which begins their spectacular 18-city Live Nation produced US Summer Tour starting tomorrow, Friday, July 23rd at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.

MTV Latin America announced that rock icons, The Smashing Pumpkins, are set to perform at MTV World Stage Mexico. The international event will be taped on August 26th at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. The show will air Friday, September 17th on MTV Latin America during Mexico’s week long Bicentennial celebration. The Smashing Pumpkins are an alternative rock band founded in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. Current band members include Billy Corgan (guitar and vocals), Mike Byrne (drums), Nicole Fiorentino (bass) and Jeff Schroeder (guitar). With more than 30 million records sold, they are considered among the most popular and highest-selling rock acts. They reached mainstream fame in the 90s with their multi-platinum second album, Siamese Dream (1993). However, it was their 1995 release, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness that propelled them to rock superstardom with hit singles such as “Tonight, Tonight”, “1979″, “Zero” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” That release was certified nine times platinum in the U.S. alone.

The Smashing Pumpkins have been nominated for various international awards and have received two GRAMMYs. In 1996, the band took home seven ‘Moonmen’ at the MTV VMAs for their videos for “1979″ and “Tonight, Tonight”, including Video of the Year for the latter.

In 2009, they announced Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, an epic album comprised of 44 tracks, released one-by-one, free of charge, through their website. The band is currently promoting their fifth release off this work, titled “Freak”.

U2 360 degree tour dates in the US, which were recently postponed due to Bono’s emergency back surgery, have all been rescheduled for Spring/Summer 2011 with all tickets being valid at the rescheduled performances.

The 2010 European tour, which has not been affected, begins as scheduled on August 6th in Turin.

TV Land announced yesterday that some of television and film’s most iconic names — Billy Crystal, Jane Leeves, Jay Leno, Wendie Malick, Bob Newhart, Betty White and more will be presenters at the “8th Annual TV Land Awards.”

The following honorees were announced to participate in the “8th Annual TV Land Awards” including the entire cast of “Everybody Loves Raymond” who will receive the Impact Award, “Glee” which will receive this year’s Future Classic Award and Mel Brooks (“Blazing Saddles”) and Carl Reiner (“The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “Ocean’s Eleven”) who will each receive the Legend Award. Aerosmith, America’s Greatest Rock and Roll band, will be performing in Boston’s famed Fenway Park on Saturday August 14th with The J. Geils Band in what will surely be the ultimate must see show of the summer. Aerosmith and The J. Aerosmith - the biggest, most enduring and thrilling band in rock history will make a spectacular return to South America for the first time since 2007 beginning in Caracas, Venezuela on May 18th with the COCKED, LOCKED, READY TO ROCK TOUR! spawning what will be the ultimate music event of the new decade. America’s greatest rock and roll band will then go to Europe for 11 more knock out shows.

“Back by popular demand with more spit and fire than ever before, we’re coming across the pond and parting the waters as we go,” says Steven Tyler.

“Aerosmith is going to be rocking in South America, the UK and Europe this summer,” adds Joe Perry. “Enough BS – we’re coming and everything is going to be set at eleven.”
