New Online Magazine to Target Music Fans and Artists

Rock World Magazine USA, the new interactive music-focused magazine, announced the magazine will officially launch on October 10th, 2010. The site, http://rockworldmagazine.com/, will be a valuable source of music information, including musician interviews, a newsletter, concert reviews, photos, fan forums and more.

“The goal of Rock World Magazine USA is to provide a resource for artists and fans, as well as a public forum where these two groups can interact,” explained Co-Editor-in Chief Sarah Schwartz. “We will bridge the gap between fan-made multimedia and the music tastemakers, bringing a new perspective to this revolutionary industry.”

To honor the launch, Rock World Magazine USA will host a special contest to assist aspiring artists in realizing their music dreams. Bands and individuals who sign up to receive the site’s newsletter will automatically be entered in a drawing to win valuable studio time in Los Angeles, as well as hotel accommodations. Up-and-coming artists will have the opportunity to record their music on professional equipment, enhancing the quality of their demo CDs. Winners will be announced in January, 2011.

Harmonix and MTV Games confirmed the entire 83 song on-disc soundtrack for the highly anticipated Rock Band 3 music video game, including new tracks from Jimi Hendrix, Avenged Sevenfold, Paramore, The White Stripes, Jane’s Addiction, Phish, Anthrax, The Cure, Bob Marley, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, Dire Straits, The Smiths, Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors and many more. Rock Band 3 will be released Oct. 26 in North America and Oct. 29 in the rest of the world for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 , Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation establishes a $5 million endowment fund for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York will create a $5 million endowment fund to ensure the nonprofit museum experience always remains vibrant. The fund was generated by proceeds from the history-making Rock and Roll Hall of Fame anniversary concerts held at Madison Square Garden in October 2009 with a lineup of legendary artists from Jerry Lee Lewis to Bono.

“Rock and roll is an art form, and arguably one of the most accessible art forms that is well known and loved around the world,” said Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “This gift is also about the artists’ endorsement of the Museum’s mission: to celebrate and preserve the art form and to provide education activities to inform the public about its worldwide impact.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has been the largest single contributor to the Museum and its support has been instrumental in the success of the Cleveland landmark. The Foundation has leveraged its presence in one of the major world capitals to bring artists to Cleveland and to create fundraising opportunities. In the past five years, the Foundation has contributed more than $13 million to the Museum in Cleveland, including annual support for capital improvements, $8 million gift toward the Capital Campaign, $1 million gift to develop a long-term digital strategy and a complete redesign of the Museum’s website.

“This support from the New York Foundation helps ensure that we will continue to thrive and I want to thank them for this very generous gift,” said Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The endowment gift comes at a time that the Rock Hall is within $1.5 million of completing an ambitious $35 million Campaign for the Rock Hall. The capital campaign will support a Museum redesign and the construction and operation of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Library and Archives in downtown Cleveland.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tells the story of rock and roll through its exhibits, education and public programs. Throughout its fifteen year history, the Rock Hall has educational activities such as the Museum’s nationally-recognized Rockin’ the Schools, On The Road (Distance Learning), award-winning Toddler Rock and upcoming Rock and Popular Music Institute programs. More than 8 million people from all 50 states and 100 countries have visited the Museum.

Now that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has established a sustainable long-term model, is nearing completion of the Campaign for the Rock Hall and finalizing plans for the Library and Archives and Museum redesign, the focus will shift to raising long-term funds like this generous endowment gift to help secure the Museum in perpetuity.

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERTS

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Fall 2009 with a once-in-a-lifetime concert event over two days at Madison Square Garden. The Shows – which include Tom Hanks paying homage to Cleveland’s Rock Hall – was broadcast on HBO, will be released on a Time-Life DVD on September 28, 2010 and will be rebroadcast on other television networks around the world. The 25th Anniversary concerts celebrated the 25 year history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and served to raise funds to create an endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. The endowment will be further supported by proceeds from DVD sales of the Time-Life Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concerts.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. is the nonprofit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. It carries out this mission through its operation of a world-class museum that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets this art form and through its library and archives as well as its educational programs.

Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi Available Worldwide through Amazon

With fans worldwide clamoring for an inside look at how Jon Bon Jovi and his band catapulted to fame, a sensational new unauthorized memoir is now available internationally through Amazon. The last time you went shopping for DVDs, you might have noticed an unmistakable empty space where Slayer titles should have been. The reason is simple – all of Slayer’s DVDs have been out of print.

But rest easy Slayer fanatics, the wait will soon be over. On August 17, 2010, 2003′s “War at the Warfield” and 2004′s “Still Reigning” will be reissued, and, for the first time ever, 1995′s “Live Intrusion,” having been digitally remastered, will also be available on DVD.

All three will be sold separately at retail and online ($13.98 each), and the Limited Edition “Slayer Live DVD 3-Pak” ($29.98), will be available exclusively on Slayer’s website, www.slayer.net

“I remember around ‘God Hates Us All,’” [2001], said Slayer’s Kerry King, “asking when we were going to make a DVD of ‘Live Intrusion.’ So, here we are, ten years later, and it’s about time.”

Every one of the Slayer live-in-concert DVDs represents a different era of the band: “Live Intrusion” was recorded on March 12, 1995 at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Mesa, AZ, and features guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Paul Bostaph. The disc, which is certified Gold, includes some of the most classic Slayer songs such as “Raining Blood” and “War Ensemble,” but also some early special tracks like “At Dawn They Sleep” and “Captor of Sin.” As a bonus, Machine Head’s Robb Flynn and Chris Kontos join the band on-stage for a cover of Venom’s “Witching Hour.”

The opening of “Live Intrusion” features a look at some of the band’s very unique fans, in particular, with special emphasis placed upon the fan from the mid-90s who had “Slayer” carved onto his forearm. In addition, the quality of “Live Intrusion” is high-end, as the original VHS master was located and used to create the DVD.

“War at the Warfield” was filmed at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA on December 7, 2001, and like “Live Intrusion,” features drummer Paul Bostaph, marking his last release with Slayer before original drummer, Dave Lombardo, rejoined the band. “Seasons in the Abyss,” “Mandatory Suicide,” and “Disciple” are some of the jewels on this live collection that debuted at #3 on Billboard’s DVD chart, and has since been certified Gold.

Filmed at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME on July 11, 2004, “Still Reigning” – also Gold certified and voted Best Live DVD by the readers of Revolver magazine – was directed by Dean Karr and recreates Slayer’s thrash/punk, 28-minute classic 1986 album “Reign In Blood” performed in its entirety. The end of the video features the “Wall of Blood,” with the band, their instruments, and the stage completely drenched by a downpour of 150 liters of “blood.”

“There was no dress rehearsal for the blood trick,” explained King. “It was either going to work or it wasn’t going to work, and we know it did work. It was so hard to play, I thought I was going to have to go back and overdub all of ‘Reigning Blood,’ but I listened to it and it was all there, it was just a lot more slippery with all the blood goo.”

The “Still Reigning” DVD offers bonus material including live performances of Slayer staples such as “Hell Awaits,” “Hallowed Point,” Necrophiliac,” “Spill the Blood,” and “South of Heaven.” The DVD also marked the return of drummer Dave Lombardo. “Even before the idea of ‘Still Reigning’ became a reality, I really wanted to do a video with Dave in it,” said King, “and I knew the fans wanted that as well.”

The Chicago Tribune’s long-time pop music critic Greg Kot wrote that Slayer “is one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.” Over the past near three-decades, Slayer has created some of thrash/metal’s most enduring and influential recordings – 1986′s “Reign In Blood,” 1990′s “Seasons in the Abyss,” up to the band’s latest, 2009′s “World Painted Blood.” Long-time fans will attest that nothing comes close to experiencing a Slayer show live and in the flesh; but there’s no denying how the band’s intensity and heaviness translates to these three killer DVDs.

No wind, no rain, no motorcycle mishaps can stop Aerosmith’s “Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock Tour” which begins their spectacular 18-city Live Nation produced US Summer Tour starting tomorrow, Friday, July 23rd at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.

Aerosmith, America’s Number One rock and roll band, has just finished a run of phenomenally successful dates in Europe and South America but all agree that playing for their American fans is the ultimate. Clearly the Aerosmith army couldn’t agree more.

The band is scheduled to play their hometown along with the J. Geils Band at a sold out Fenway Park show on August 14th.
