Billy Idol discusses Rock Hall induction and upcoming album “Dream Into It”
Billy Idol has spent most of his career trying to shake off his rock ‘n’ roll bad boy image. Despite staying clean and sober since 2010, his rebellious reputation still follows him. After being eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2007, he finally received his first nomination this year, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Idol’s 2025 has been bustling with activities so far. He released his first single in three years, “Still Dancing,” last month. Later in April, he will be dropping his first album in 11 years, titled “Dream Into It,” a highly anticipated project that he hopes will coincide with an acceptance into the Rock Hall.
When asked about the potential Rock Hall induction, Idol expressed his excitement, calling it “rather fantastic.” However, he humbly acknowledged the punk-rock pioneers who have yet to be fully recognized by the Hall, citing the absence of bands like New York Dolls and the delayed recognition of the MC5. Idol’s respect for his predecessors and the history of rock music is evident in his viewpoint on the induction process.
Idol’s involvement with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies in the past has been significant. He participated virtually in 2020, discussing the influence of glam rock icons like Marc Bolan and T. Rex. In 2024, he graced the stage as part of a tribute band honoring Ozzy Osbourne’s induction for his solo work. His experiences at these ceremonies have been memorable, and he values the opportunity to pay tribute to legendary figures in rock history.
While some artists have faced delays in their Rock Hall recognition, Idol remains optimistic about his own prospects. As the release of “Dream Into It” draws closer, his focus is on sharing his life story through his music, solidifying his place in the pantheon of rock greats. Billy Idol’s journey from a rebellious icon to a respected musician and potential Hall of Famer is a testament to his enduring legacy in the music industry.
