Thrash metal pioneers from Germany, Sodom, have recently revealed exciting news about their upcoming album, “The Arsonist,” slated for release on June 27th under the banner of Napalm Records. Accompanying this announcement is the release of the album’s lead single, “Trigger Discipline,” which comes with a captivating lyric video that fans can enjoy to get a taste of what’s to come.

In the realm of producing great music, sound quality undoubtedly plays a significant role. In keeping with this vision, the band opted for a unique approach by recording the drum parts for their album, “The Arsonist,” using a 24-track analog tape machine, setting them apart from the modern digital production techniques. This decision, as frontman Tom Angelripper articulates, aimed at creating an authentic and individualistic sound, devoid of any studio enhancements or alterations. He expressed, “No plastic! The difference in sound compared to today’s standard drum productions is amazing and has had a positive effect on all the instruments. Naturally, time and effort as well as costs were also higher, but we’re happy to fork out for a superior result.”

Beyond the distinctive production process, the creativity and songwriting prowess of the band members shine through on “The Arsonist.” Each member, including Tom Angelripper on vocals and bass, Frank Blackfire and York Segatz on guitars, and Toni Merkel on drums, contributed to the album’s musical landscape. Angelripper noted, “Frank contributed those typical Sodom riffs and hooks again, whereas York favors more epic songwriting. As a perfect complement to both of them, Toni, who is also an excellent guitarist, contributed a number of songs and helped to make the album even more versatile.”

The tracklist for “The Arsonist” promises an explosive and diverse musical journey, with songs like “The Spirits That I Called,” “Witchhunter,” and “Sane Insanity” among others adding depth and variety to the album’s sonic landscape. Sodom also plans to bring their electrifying energy to the live stage in 2025 with performances at renowned festivals like Metal Franconia, Copenhell Festival, and Rockharz.

As Sodom gears up for the release of “The Arsonist” and embarks on an exciting live tour, fans of thrash metal can expect a thrilling musical experience that stays true to the band’s legendary sound while pushing boundaries and exploring new creative horizons. Stay tuned for more updates on Sodom’s musical journey in the world of metal.
