After a hiatus of nearly two decades, Thirty-Three Rotations has made a quiet but purposeful return with a new video, reigniting their metal-infused hardcore roots. Formed in 2000, the band originally disbanded in 2004 after playing close to 100 shows while exploring a sound that evolved from New Age Records influence to a more metallic hardcore direction that was prevalent in that era.

Their return was marked by the release of a music video accompanying one of their older tracks, which they secretly recorded without much fanfare. The video premiered on Radio Ostrowiec, a platform of significance to the band, where the members reflected on their past and hinted at future plans for their music. They have now unveiled the full launch of the video on IDIOTEQ.

The band’s connections to the local music scene in the Puławy-Kurów-Lublin triangle, often humorously termed as the “Portland of the East,” played a vital role in shaping their early creative experiences. Reflecting on their roots, they reminisce about the magical encounters in the legendary Jam room in Puławy that fueled their passion for music and profound camaraderie.

Last year, guitarist Łukasz Miazek traveled from Scotland to reconnect with the band, leading to the recording of the audio for their new track with Haldor at Satanic Studio, guitars in Edinburgh by Ewan Simpson, and vocals in Wieloślad Studio by Michał Ścibior. The music video was directed by Artur Dziewisz with visuals by Ubeusz Pastuszak.

Their cautious return with a new track signifies potential future releases, possibly including a full album and live shows. The band members, dispersed across different musical projects, have come back together after years of pursuing individual musical endeavors. Vocalist Michał Matraszek, guitarist Łukasz Miazek, bassist Tomasz Szewczyk, and drummer Artur Dziewisz each bring their unique experiences to the table.

Reflecting on the music scene of the early 2000s, they acknowledge the evolution of hardcore sound towards a more metal-infused direction. Influenced by bands like Outspoken, Unbroken, Mean Season, and Strife, and labels like New Age Records, they found their niche within the hardcore music landscape. Despite facing material challenges in terms of gear affordability, the band managed to establish a loyal following of friends and fans within the scene.

Addressing the changes in the current music scene, they express a sense of nostalgia for the raw, unfiltered energy of the past while acknowledging the necessity of adapting to the digital age of social media promotion and merchandising. They emphasize the importance of genuine connection through music despite the industry’s commercialization.

The new video serves as a poignant tribute and a symbolic reentry into a world they never truly departed from. As they tentatively mark their return, the band hints at more to come, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what the future holds for Thirty-Three Rotations.
