The study, conducted by the American Psychological Association, found that millennials are the most stressed generation, with 12% saying they have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, compared to 8% of Generation X and 7% of Baby Boomers.

The rise of the gig economy and precarious job market have made it difficult for millennials to find stable, well-paying jobs, leading to financial stress and anxiety. One of the key findings of the study was the impact of social media on millennial mental health. The constant exposure to curated and often unrealistic representations of other people’s lives on platforms like Instagram and Facebook can lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. This phenomenon, known as “social media envy,” can contribute to increased anxiety and stress among millennials.

The study also highlighted the role of financial pressures in contributing to millennial burnout. Many millennials are burdened with student loan debt, high housing costs, and stagnant wages, making it difficult for them to achieve financial stability. This constant financial strain can lead to feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, and burnout.

Experts recommend several strategies for managing millennial burnout, including setting boundaries with work, practicing self-care, and seeking support from friends, family, or mental health professionals. It’s important for millennials to prioritize their well-being and mental health over societal expectations of success and productivity. By addressing the underlying causes of burnout and taking proactive steps to reduce stress, millennials can improve their mental health and overall quality of life.
