Trapt Shows Canceled by Many Venues, Singer Attributes to ‘Cancel Culture’
Trapt, a rock band, is facing backlash as several cancellations of their acoustic tour are taking place due to comments made by the lead singer, Chris Taylor Brown, which are considered far-right. Initially, Trapt was scheduled to start their ongoing tour at SideQuest on 44th in Pittsburgh in the recent past. However, the venue opted to cancel the show, prompting Trapt to move it last-minute to The Building for Arts and Culture in North Versailles, Pennsylvania.
The lead singer, Brown, expressed his thoughts on the cancellations in a video, which has since been removed. Brown acknowledged the cancellations, mentioning that most venues did not yield to the pressure of “cancel culture,” but a couple chose to cancel in Pittsburgh. Brown responded to allegations made about things he said five years ago and a joke he made, emphasizing that he had already apologized for any insensitivity exhibited. He also mentioned that despite the backlash, Trapt and their fans have moved forward, and the show was going to go on regardless.
Trapt faced a similar situation earlier this year when they were removed from a 2025 tour with Powerman 5000 right after being announced as an opening act. Brown expressed his disappointment with the cancellation, noting that the band had only focused on music in recent years.
These cancellations are a result of comments made by Brown during the COVID era, where he expressed right-wing viewpoints and support for the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. Some of his comments sparked controversy, such as a tweet that appeared to condone statutory rape, causing the suspension of Trapt’s Twitter account. Brown was also reported to have invited the far-right group “Proud Boys” to attend a Trapt show in Dallas.
Despite these cancellations, Trapt still has upcoming performances scheduled in different locations, including at the Halftime Sports Bar & Music Venue in Newark, Delaware, and the inaugural Boardwalk Rock festival in Maryland this upcoming May. Following these events, they are expected to make appearances in cities like Virginia Beach, Milwaukee, and West Hollywood. The band continues to push forward amid the controversies surrounding them.
