Video reveals the wife of Weezer’s bassist holding gun before LAPD officers fired at her
New footage has emerged, shedding light on the dramatic moment when Jessica Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot in the shoulder by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) while they were pursuing three suspects through her neighborhood. The incident unfolded on April 8 in Lauren’s Eagle Rock vicinity as police officers were chasing individuals who had fled a hit-and-run scene on the freeway. Notably, Lauren had no involvement in the initial car chase.
The video reveals Lauren stepping out of her residence clad in a Weezer shirt and brandishing a firearm in her yard, all while law enforcement officers combed the area for the suspects. As officers spied her through a fence, they shouted for her to put down the gun. Despite repeated warnings to drop the weapon, Lauren failed to comply. Officers alerted their dispatch about an armed suspect on-site, leading to a tense standoff.
Authorities spent a significant two-minute period urging Lauren to disarm, with one officer meticulously identifying themselves as law enforcement. The admonishments mounted as Lauren defiantly raised and activated her gun, prompting officers to open fire. Security footage from a vantage point overlooking Lauren’s yard corroborates the officers’ accounts, capturing the moment she instigated the confrontation.
Moreover, the LAPD released audio from a 911 call that revealed Lauren’s erroneous belief that the hit-and-run culprits were targeting her. In the call, an unidentified individual conveyed Lauren’s concern that the suspects were in possession of firearms and drawing police attention. Moments later, Lauren herself can be heard narrating the unfolding events, claiming that she was fired upon after instructing someone else to put down their gun, underscoring the chaotic nature of the situation.
Within an hour of the incident, Lauren was apprehended for attempted murder of a police officer, and law enforcement officers discovered a 9mm handgun in her residence. Subsequent video footage captures the aftermath of the shooting, with Lauren lying on the ground in handcuffs before being released on a $1 million bond. Her court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
