Welsh rock band The Alarm is mourning the loss of their lead vocalist, Mike Peters, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 66 after fighting the disease for several decades. Despite battling various forms of cancer for thirty years, Peters continued to tour and create music, using his platform to champion cancer research and awareness.

Born in Wales in 1959, Peters founded The Alarm alongside Eddie McDonald, Nigel Twist, and Dave Sharp. The band found success with albums like Declaration and Strength, which secured them a spot on U2’s 1983 War Tour. A notable achievement for The Alarm was their 1989 album, Change, produced by Tony Visconti, which produced their highest-charting hit “Sold Me Down the River” on the Billboard Hot 100.

After the band disbanded in 1991, Peters embarked on a solo career, sharing stages with icons such as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Throughout his life, Peters faced numerous cancer diagnoses, leading him to establish the charitable organization Love Hope Strength with his wife, Jules, to raise awareness about stem cell donation.

Tragically, just before his passing, Peters was gearing up for the release of his final album, Transformation, and the second volume of his memoirs, Volume 2 HOPE – 1991-2005. His legacy not only includes his music but also his tireless advocacy for cancer research and patient support.

The music world has lost a true talent in the passing of Mike Peters, whose dedication to his craft and his advocacy for cancer awareness will be remembered for years to come. May his music and passion continue to inspire future generations as they navigate the highs and lows of life in the music industry.
