‘Minecraft Movie’ anthem ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ becomes shortest charting song in history
Jack Black’s recent musical project known as “Steve’s Lava Chicken” has made a grand entrance into the realm of music. This 34-second tune from the movie “A Minecraft Movie” has achieved a top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, securing its place as the shortest song ever to grace this distinguished list.
A collaborative effort between Jack Black and director Jared Hess, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” combines comedic lyrics with engaging sound effects of sizzling lava and clucking chickens. This amusing song delves into the comical aspects of what unfolds when lava and chicken collide, incorporating playful lyrics and fun sound effects like chicken squawking and sizzling noises.
Reaching No. 10 on the Hot Rock Songs chart, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” has managed to set a new record as the shortest song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by Kid Cudi’s 37-second track “Beautiful Trip.” Other brief songs that have made an impact on the Hot 100 include “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” by Piko-Taro (45 seconds), among others.
Co-written by Jack Black and director Jared Hess, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” is produced by long-time collaborator John Spiker. This marks Jack Black’s second entry into the Hot 100 following “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which peaked at No. 56 in 2023.
Notably, the track “I Feel Alive” from “A Minecraft Movie” features prominent musicians such as Dave Grohl on drums, Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar, and Roger Joseph Manning Jr. on keys. “Steve’s Lava Chicken” is just one of four songs contributed by Jack Black for the film’s soundtrack, with other tracks including “Birthday Rap” with Jason Momoa.
Since its debut on April 4th, “A Minecraft Movie” has seen monumental success, generating over $800 million in revenue globally.
