Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have made public additional surveillance footage capturing a harrowing incident of a 73-year-old man being robbed at gunpoint in south Charlotte after withdrawing cash from an ATM. The unsettling event occurred on Wednesday, April 16 at the East Woodlawn Road and Old Pineville Road intersection in south Charlotte.

The victim, identified as Eddie Patton Jr., recounted the traumatic experience in an interview with WBTV. “I went back to the car and was sitting when the guy walked up behind me and brandished a gun,” Patton shared. The surveillance video recently released by the authorities vividly portrays the terrifying encounter. “It just scared me all at once,” continued Patton. “You know somebody walk up behind you and stick a gun on you, what you gonna do? I’m gonna give him the money.”

Investigators are on the hunt for the perpetrator, who they believe fled the scene on a scooter. Detective Jacqueline Clyburn from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers emphasized the urgency of identifying the suspect in the surveillance footage and urged the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in the apprehension of the perpetrator.

In addition to this armed robbery, CMPD detectives are actively seeking to identify an individual who tried to rob a convenience store in east Charlotte. The failed robbery attempt took place on Easter Sunday at the 7-Eleven on Connection Point Blvd in east Charlotte. Detective Clyburn emphasized the seriousness of such crimes, stating, “It’s unpredictable. It only takes one wrong movement and your life is changed forever.” Although no items were stolen during this thwarted robbery, the police are keen on identifying the suspect.

Furthermore, law enforcement is also dedicated to identifying a man who has been using a stolen credit card at a convenience store in Charlotte, attempting multiple transactions with the illicit card. Surveillance images of this individual have been released in the hopes of eliciting tips from the public.
