Wolfgang Van Halen’s musical project Mammoth (formerly known as Mammoth WVH) recently released a new track titled “The End” on May 1. The song showcases a guitar tapping solo that pays homage to his legendary late father, Eddie Van Halen.

Discussing the creative process behind the song, Wolfgang shared, “I’ve had the tapping idea on the intro for ‘The End’ since before Mammoth. I was able to integrate it into this track. It retains its high-energy and shredding qualities, but it also has a melodic and controlled aspect. This song represents a departure from my usual style, and I knew it would be a significant milestone. Upon completion, ‘The End’ felt particularly meaningful to me.”

In a recent social media post, Wolfgang revealed an interesting detail about the recording process of the song. He disclosed that he recorded the main tapping section and the slap part using his father’s iconic red-and-white striped Frankenstein guitar, famously known as the “Frankenstrat.” This decision to use the guitar in the recording holds a special significance for Wolfgang, stating, “Fun fact, I recorded the main tapping of the song, and the slap part with the Frankenstein! It makes me feel closer to Pop knowing that such an essential part of his legacy can be a part of mine every time I record.”

Currently, Mammoth is touring with Seether and is scheduled to join Creed’s tour later this summer before embarking on their headlining tour across the U.S. in the fall. The band’s trajectory seems promising, with Wolfgang’s creative direction and personal connections to his father’s musical legacy adding depth and meaning to their work.
