Motörhead enthusiasts have something to look forward to as an unreleased album from 1976 is set to hit the shelves on June 27, 2025. The album, titled ‘The Manticore Tapes,’ boasts 11 previously unheard tracks from the very first studio session of the iconic trio comprising lead vocalist and bassist Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke, and drummer Phil Taylor.

The various editions of ‘The Manticore Tapes’ offer a diverse selection of tracks. The Deluxe Expanded Bookpack includes an instrumental intro, tracks like ‘Leavin’ Here,’ ‘Vibrator,’ ‘Help Keep Us On The Road,’ and ‘The Watcher,’ among others, as well as alternate takes of some songs. The Live LP features recordings from the Blitzkreig on Birmingham ’77 concert, with electrifying performances of hit songs like ‘Motörhead,’ ‘Vibrator,’ and ‘Leavin’ Here.’ Additionally, a 7″ vinyl captures a previously unreleased live performance at Barbarella’s in Birmingham in ’77. The LP and CD versions echo the Deluxe Expanded Bookpack’s contents, providing a versatile range of listening options for fans.

A press release from Maric Media sheds light on the album’s origins, providing a glimpse into Motörhead’s early days. In 1976, the band’s classic lineup, affectionately known as the ‘Three Amigos,’ came together at Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s renowned Manticore Studio in Fulham for a transformative rehearsal and recording session. Nearly five decades later, these recordings have been unearthed, restored, and prepared for release, marking a significant milestone as Motörhead celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The album’s genesis reveals a lesser-known period in the band’s history, shedding light on their evolution and struggles. Motörhead’s encounter with Frank Kennington, a former roadie for The Who turned manager, led them to the converted ABC cinema in Fulham – Manticore – where they recorded with Ronnie Lane’s mobile studio. These tapes, rejuvenated by restoration efforts in California and mastered in Los Angeles, capture Motörhead’s raw energy and powerhouse performances, showcasing a crucial phase in their development into hard rock icons.

‘The Manticore Tapes’ will be available in a deluxe edition encompassing vinyl, CD, and digital formats, providing a comprehensive listening experience for fans. As anticipation builds for the release, a new video for the track ‘Motörhead’ offers a taste of what’s to come. With the album’s unveiling, fans can delve into a piece of rock ‘n’ roll history, rediscovering Motörhead’s early sound and celebrating the legacy of a band that has left an indelible mark on the music scene.
