Billy Joel’s spouse, Alexis Roderick Joel, has spoken openly about her battle with endometriosis.

Alexis, who has been married to the 75-year-old music icon since 2015, faced severe symptoms, misdiagnoses, and unsuccessful surgeries before discovering that she was dealing with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus.

Throughout her struggle with the unknown disorder and chronic pain, Alexis was caring for her two young kids and accompanying Billy to his concerts worldwide.

In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Alexis confessed that traveling with Billy and their children while experiencing endometriosis symptoms was challenging.

“I was trying to manage it, but not very effectively,” she said.

Alexis continued, “Traveling with kids, especially through different time zones, is already hectic. Add to that the demands of a husband who requires time and attention while he’s working – we’re not on vacation. Dealing with what I was experiencing at the time was tough.

“Fortunately, while he’s on tour, we have a lot of support which was crucial,” And it was significant. I’m lucky to have people who can assist me because you’ll reach your limit. There’s only so much you can handle.”

Alexis and the “Piano Man” have two daughters together, Della, 9, and Remy, 7. Billy also has a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, 39, from his previous marriage to Christie Brinkley.

Alexis described the time as particularly challenging, as neither she nor Billy understood the cause of her symptoms.

“We were clueless in the beginning, like most people are,” she explained, “and it’s hard because I knew I wasn’t well.”

“And I also didn’t want him to tell me I wasn’t feeling well,” she shared, chuckling. “When you’re coping with excruciating pain while traveling with two young kids around the world, it’s hard to keep your temper in check. You wake up not knowing what each day will bring, making planning very difficult.”

“As time has passed, he’s been incredibly supportive,” she added. “He picks up where I can’t and bridges the gap in my shortcomings, which was crucial. We’re always looking up information – he’ll send me articles about endometriosis.”

“Never did I imagine he would be sharing that kind of information, but when you witness someone you love suffering, you step in. It’s what families do.”

Billy has recently faced health issues of his own. In March, he announced on social media that he was postponing several tour dates due to a medical condition. The tour is set to resume in July after his recovery.

Billy emphasized the importance of his health, stating, “While I regret postponing shows, my health must come first. I am eager to return to the stage and share live music joy with our incredible fans. Thank you for understanding.”

Updating on her husband’s progress, Alexis mentioned, “He’s doing well. It occurred to me the other day that he’s about to turn 76. People tend not to think of him that way, but approaching that age, and he’s been performing consistently for 15 years – just this latest stretch.”

“Apart from the pandemic, he has been busy every two weeks for over 15 years,” she continued. “It’s demanding. At 75, 76, there comes a time when you can’t plan everything a year and a half in advance. That’s how far in advance these schedules are booked. You’re planning tasks that ahead.“
