Carolyn Wonderland Marks Release of New Album in Houston
Carolyn Wonderland makes a triumphant return to Houston to present her latest album launch at the Heights Theater on May 16th. Originating in the Houston music scene as a young performer, Wonderland has garnered recognition from music icons like Bob Dylan and was notably the first female guitarist to join John Mayall’s revered Bluesbreakers. Her impressive discography of eight albums includes her recent release, Truth Is, the second under Alligator Records.
In a virtual interview, Wonderland, currently based in Austin, shares her experience creating music under Alligator Records. Her surprise at receiving positive feedback from Bruce Iglauer, the label’s president, encouraged her to maintain her unique musical style, leading to her collaboration with producer Dave Alvin. Alvin, known as the “Mad Rearranger,” played a pivotal role in co-writing songs and restructuring arrangements, showcasing Wonderland’s versatility as an artist.
The recording of Truth Is, held in Austin, featured an array of guest musicians curated by Wonderland during the winter months to accommodate their availability.
