Indie rock band Wolf Alice has made waves with the announcement of their upcoming fourth album, titled The Clearing, accompanied by the release of a new single, ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’. The news comes after four years of relative silence from the band, who are gearing up for a much-anticipated return to the spotlight with their scheduled appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Fans were teased with hints of what was to come in April through a series of cryptic social media posts and the unveiling of a fresh band logo. The single ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ kicks off with a captivating piano melody that gradually builds up, supported by a strong drumbeat. The addition of backing vocals adds depth to the song, leading into a powerful chorus. The lyrics convey a message of growth and resilience, with lines like, “And if you knew me / You’d know that it would hurt / Feel like I won’t flower in spoiled earth / But I’ll bloom, baby, bloom / Watch me, yeah, you’ll see just what I’m worth.”

Describing their new album, The Clearing, the band highlights its playful yet serious nature, blending irony with straightforward storytelling. They characterize it as a progressive departure from their previous work, exploring themes of love, loss, and human connection that resonate with a generation coming of age. The album is said to pay homage to the 70s while maintaining a contemporary sound. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Fleetwood Mac, Wolf Alice’s latest offering promises a collection of diverse and captivating tracks.

The band’s previous album, Blue Weekend, cemented their success, earning them a number one album in the UK and a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination. Vocalist Ellie Rowsell shared her inspiration behind ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, expressing a desire to create a powerful rock anthem that delves into the female experience. The band worked with director Colin Solal Cardo on the music video, incorporating striking visuals and choreography by Ryan Heffington.

Fans can look forward to the release of The Clearing on Friday, August 29th, under the Sony Music label. Leading up to the album launch, Wolf Alice is set to perform intimate shows in Ireland before gracing the stages of BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend and Glastonbury. The band’s return promises an exciting blend of classic rock influences and modern sensibilities, ensuring a fresh and dynamic listening experience for their dedicated fan base.
