Foo Fighters dismiss drummer Josh Freese, express shock and disappointment
The Foo Fighters have recently bid farewell to Josh Freese, who had been with the band as a drummer for almost two years following the tragic loss of Taylor Hawkins. Freese announced this unexpected turn of events on social media, expressing his shock and disappointment over the decision made by the band.
Upon receiving the news from the Foo Fighters, Freese shared in an Instagram post that the band had chosen to “go in a different direction with their drummer” and did not provide a specific reason for the change. Despite his surprise, Freese reflected positively on his time with the group, both on and off stage, expressing his support for whatever decision they felt was best for the band.
Having been a professional drummer for over four decades, Freese stated that being let go from a band was a first for him, leaving him feeling more taken aback and disheartened than angry. However, given his history of freelancing and collaborating with multiple bands, he reassured his followers that he would be fine regardless, hinting at a humorous upcoming list titled “Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters.”
The decision to part ways with Freese came shortly after the Foo Fighters announced their first scheduled concert of 2025, set to take place at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 4. Prior to this, their last live performance was on August 18, 2024, at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park.
The band has maintained a low profile recently since Dave Grohl disclosed the news of welcoming a new baby outside of his marriage in September. Following this revelation, reports suggested that the band had canceled their 2025 touring plans. Meanwhile, Grohl has stayed busy throughout the year with various activities, such as cooking for wildfire victims in Los Angeles for his birthday in January, reuniting Nirvana with Post Malone for the SNL 50th Anniversary concert in February, collaborating with Jack Black on a song for A Minecraft Movie’s soundtrack in March, and surprising Coachella attendees with performances alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic and at a school fundraiser in April.
As of now, the Foo Fighters have not yet announced who will be stepping in to fill Freese’s position in the band. The future of the group remains uncertain as they navigate this change in their lineup, moving forward with their music without their former drummer.
