UkraineNew music this week (part 1): Songs from Abor & Tynna, Katarsis, Klemen and morePosted on May 18, 2025May 18, 2025byRuxandra Tudor
The Eurovision 2025 season is now in full swing and no doubt fans will have the songs from this year’s contest on repeat until we crown a winner in May. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests – they’re still bringing us a lot of new music to enjoy.
Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.
Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.
New music from Eurovision artists: 2025 | Week 20 part 1
With so many new songs this week, we’ve split the roundup into two smaller articles. You can find part 2 here.
Abor & Tynna – “Rotkäppchen”
This week, we have a long lineup of songs, from which numerous from the artists who competed in this year’s Eurovision. We are starting with Abor & Tynna, the beloved Hungarian duo who represented Germany finishing on the 15th place in the final. Their new track, “Little Red Riding Hood,” is an electronic tune that carries the same BRAT Summer vibe associated with their Eurovision entry.
The song reimagines the classic fairytale in a modern context, portraying Red Riding Hood as an independent city girl. In this version, the “wolves” are the men around her, but she prefers her own company: “Little Red Riding Hood is a city girl / She dances with the wolves / Red miniskirt, she’s a flirt / But she only gives out rejections.” The track is featured on their album Bittersüß (Baller Deluxe).
Katarsis – “Balta Meilė”
Katarsis is the rock band that made Lithuania proud this year, taking the country straight to the Eurovision final, where they finished on the 16th place. This week, they released an audio version of “Balta Meilė.” Eurovision fans fell in love with the song when the band performed it for Eurovision: A Little Bit More—a pre-contest series streamed on the official Eurovision YouTube channel, where artists shared alternative versions of their competing entries or unique covers.
“Balta Meilė” is a cover of a 1997 track originally released by Lemon Joy, a well-known Lithuanian synthpop band. This version transforms the song into a powerful rock ballad, staying true to its emotional core—a love so intense it melts the emotional “snow” within: “I want to stay, I want to drown in you / Sea, waves, touch me again / The snow is melting and the stars are drawing closer / Break the glass…”
Klemen – “The Northern Lights” and “Out of My Cage”
Klemen represented Slovenia at Eurovision this year, and although he didn’t qualify for the Grand Final, he won the hearts of fans with the raw emotion in his music. His upcoming album, Golden Hour, is set to be released on June 3rd. Ahead of the big release, he’s treating fans to a double release from the album. These new songs are filled with warmth and light, gently sprinkled with hope.
“The Northern Lights” is about finding the vibrant, colorful lights in your life after wandering through darkness. It carries the message that sometimes, you need the dark in order to see the beauty of the light. “Out of My Cage” explores the journey of breaking free from fakeness, discarding the masks and costumes and embracing your true self. It speaks to the struggle of feeling inauthentic, the desire to escape, and the courage to finally live as who you really are.
Nemo – “Unexplainable”
Nemo won Eurovision for Switzerland last year. This year, they were invited to perform during the Grand Final, and this is the exact song they chose to perform. The track is a very personal one, about understanding yourself and sometimes feeling “unexplainable,” struggling with all the thoughts, questions, and expectations that others try to impose: “I can’t explain the way I feel / Whatever happens in my mind / I never know if it’s real / Can a feeling be a lie? / I rarely understand my thoughts / I write them down before I sleep / But I’m exactly where I was / Every time I take a read.”
The song really showcases Nemo’s outstanding voice and adds depth through its emotional honesty, drawn from personal experience, something that definitely contributed to a stellar performance on the big stage.
Jerry Heil & Within Temptation – “Sing Like A Siren”
Jerry Heil represented Ukraine last year alongside alyona alyona. This year, she returned to the Eurovision stage with an interval performance in the First Semi-Final—a tribute to Celine Dion—joined by Marina Satti, Silvester Belt, and iolanda.
This week, Jerry released an exciting collaboration with Within Temptation. The song blends multiple genres, with a “folk vesnyanka as its central motif—a melody that’s hypnotic and fluid, much like the ebb and flow of water.” This traditional folk element is seamlessly fused with rock and classical influences, creating a powerful, genre-bending piece. The lyrics act as both a call to action and a guiding light for those feeling lost: “Open all the doors / Let the water come inside and / If you wanna face the storm / Feel the storm / Be the storm / And sing like a siren (…) I rise up from the ocean deep / Awaking from the winter sleep / In chaos I will find my peace.”
Jerry said about the song:
There are two main characters in this story: a girl and an elemental force – water. However, as the story unfolds, we realize there is, in fact, only one, because humans and nature are one. The raging water represents the challenges we face on the way to our ‘safe harbor’. But the key is understanding that we don’t have to fight nature. Once we see ourselves as part of it, we realize that sometimes, we are the ones who create the storm.
Aurela Gace – “Bela”
Aurela, who competed for Albania in 2011, is back this week with a fun new track—a playful take on being in love, with all its ups and downs. The song leans slightly into parody, capturing the drama and comedy of romance in a lighthearted way. It also serves as the soundtrack for the new Albanian road trip rom-com Luli
