Mark Davis issues a warning to ‘Madden’ biopic – Las Vegas Attractions
Raiders owner Mark Davis is raising concerns about the upcoming “Madden” biopic, expressing his displeasure with the script. The film, which features notable Raiders figures and imagery, is not endorsed or supported by the team. Davis has taken issue with some dialogue in the script, particularly a scene involving his father, Al Davis, and former coach John Madden after a game in 1976. In this version of events, Al Davis is upset with Madden because the team’s win led them to face the tough Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. Davis refutes this portrayal, highlighting the close relationship between his father and Madden and their successful collaboration in building the team. He stresses that the team’s motto of “Just win, baby” does not include intentionally losing games for strategic reasons.
The film primarily focuses on Madden’s transition from coaching to the development of the highly popular “Madden NFL” video game series. While the casting of Christian Bale as Al Davis and Nicolas Cage as John Madden is promising, Davis hopes to avoid his father being depicted as a caricature. He has suggested that the actors refer to Al Davis’ extensive 1997 NFL Films interview to better understand his personality and character. Despite his reservations, Davis has chosen not to provide additional information or materials for the film’s production.
