Salt Water Criminals, the band fronted by Reuben Scott and featuring members of Office Dog, Daffodils, and Awning, recently released their second album titled ‘I Believe in Dog.’ The album has quickly become a standout feature of NZ Music Month. This Ōtepoti-bred collective has crafted a compelling blend of post-punk, power-pop, and avant-rock across eleven tracks that were recorded in various spaces across central Auckland.

Among the various highlights of the album are tracks like the title song ‘I Believe in Dog,’ which offers a fuzz-frazzled and sharp sound. Other notable tracks include ‘Boredoom’ and ‘Grow,’ which showcase a mix of motorik, slowcore, and jangly reflections. ’15/52′ is an emotionally charged country-fried pop song, ‘These Words Are For Sale’ presents rhythmic and poetic observations, and ‘The Patient Type’ surprises listeners with its hook-filled composition.

The band recently completed their release tour and is now gearing up for their next performance as part of the JUNK 2025 festival lineup at St. Kevin’s Arcade in Tāmaki Makaurau on June 7th. The festival lineup includes bands like Cabinet, Dropper, George Barney Roberts, Girls Factory, HŌHĀ, Pearly*, Ringlets, Scrambline, The Empty Threats, Twine, and Vera Ellen.

The album, ‘I Believe in Dog,’ is now available on major streaming platforms for music enthusiasts to enjoy. Make sure to catch Salt Water Criminals live at the upcoming festival for an electrifying performance that will keep you on your toes.
