Midalidare Estate caught my attention due to its remarkable success at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships, consistently winning Gold Medals for its exceptional Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine. However, my visit to the estate left me in awe of not only their world-class sparkling wines but also the outstanding still white and red wines they produce. The estate is located in the picturesque village of Mogilovo, which has been revitalized by the owner’s investments. The village now boasts an on-site hotel, spa, restaurant, gastro pub, lakeside cottages, luxury wedding accommodations, two wineries, and surrounding vineyards, breathing life and employment back into Mogilovo.

The meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyards and winery is truly exceptional, with expertise gained from producing wines in New Zealand alongside renowned estates in Marlborough and Central Otago. Midalidare Estate stands out not as just another emerging winery but as a meticulously crafted business that placed a significant focus on producing still wines before venturing into the world of sparkling wines. This approach has not only elevated the quality of their wines but has also contributed to the economic and environmental rejuvenation of the local area.

In recent years, the estate has drawn crowds of up to 60,000 attendees to its annual Rock Festival, promoting not only its wines but also positioning the area as a sought-after tourist destination. Excitingly, this year’s festival is rumored to feature rock legend Alice Cooper.

The estate’s state-of-the-art tasting room is reminiscent of a space mission HQ, complete with laid-back seats, cinematic 3D effects, and various innovative visual experiences that marry the past, present, and future seamlessly.

As for the wines, my tasting experience left me thoroughly impressed. The portfolio of sparkling wines offers exceptional value and quality, showcasing elegance, cleanliness, and precision. These are not your average sparkling wines but rather fine offerings that deliver a refined and sophisticated drinking experience. The focus on magnum production is particularly notable and undoubtedly sets a new standard for sparkling wine sales.

While my visit primarily centered around exploring the sparkling wines, I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding selection of still wines offered by Midalidare Estate. With two dedicated wineries for red and white wines, the estate produces an impressive range of still wines sourced from leased vineyards in Marlborough and Central Otago, New Zealand.

Standouts from the still wine selection included the Midalidare Silver Angel Sauvignon Blanc, the Midalidare Estate Grown Single Vineyard Sauvignon/Semillon, and the Midalidare Just Three Barrels Viognier. Each wine exuded its unique character, offering a delightful drinking experience characterized by freshness, vibrancy, and complexity.

In conclusion, Midalidare Estate is a true gem in the world of winemaking, blending tradition with innovation to produce a diverse range of exceptional wines. The estate’s unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability shines through in every bottle, making it a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and tourists alike.
