Tobias Forge Covers ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for Brian May & Roger Taylor
Ghost lead singer Tobias Forge recently undertook a daunting task at the Polar Music Prize ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. The event was held to honor the iconic band Queen for their remarkable contributions to music. Forge, in front of the likes of Brian May, Roger Taylor, and Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf, delivered a rendition of Queen’s timeless classic, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Accompanied by Opeth guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, Forge’s performance was a highlight of the evening.
Witnessing this performance, May and Taylor were compelled to give Forge a standing ovation, acknowledging his talent and the courage it takes to perform such a legendary song in front of the individuals who helped create it. Performing in the presence of musical legends like Brian May and Roger Taylor can undoubtedly be a nerve-wracking experience for any artist, but Forge rose to the occasion and delivered a memorable rendition of the iconic track.
This performance comes at the end of an eventful month for Tobias Forge and his band Ghost. In a significant achievement earlier this month, Ghost’s latest studio album, “Skeletá,” claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. This milestone marked Ghost’s first number one album in the United States, solidifying their position as a major player in the music industry.
According to Billboard, “Skeletá” managed to move an impressive 86,000 units, with a vast majority of those figures stemming from traditional album sales. Notably, vinyl sales accounted for over 44,000 copies, setting a new record for the biggest week for a hard rock album in the modern era. This era began in 1991 when SoundScan (now Luminate) began tracking music sales figures.
The success of “Skeletá” is also significant industry-wise, as it marks the first time in four years that a hard rock album has claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. The last hard rock album to achieve this feat was AC/DC’s “Power Up” in November 2020. With this recent accomplishment, Ghost continues to make waves in the music world, solidifying their position as one of the leading bands in the hard rock genre.
Tobias Forge’s impressive performance at the Polar Music Prize ceremony, alongside the success of Ghost’s latest album, “Skeletá,” highlights the band’s growing influence and artistic prowess. As they continue to captivate audiences with their unique sound and engaging performances, Ghost shows no signs of slowing down, cementing their status as a driving force in the world of rock music.
