John Fogerty re-records CCR songs for new album, following Taylor Swift’s lead
John Fogerty has followed in Taylor Swift’s footsteps by re-recording some of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s iconic songs for a new album. After a 50-year battle, Fogerty finally regained the rights to his CCR songs in January 2023 but did not own the master recordings. Taking inspiration from Swift, who recreated her earlier albums to secure ownership, Fogerty has re-recorded 20 CCR songs for “Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years,” set for release on August 22.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Fogerty expressed his desire to name the album “Taylor’s Version” and highlighted that these re-recordings are not mere covers but painstaking recreations of the original versions. The new recordings feature Fogerty’s vocals, guitar parts, and the original rhythm section to capture the essence of the timeless classics. Fogerty mentioned, “I’m still kind of waiting to hear feedback, but the first five or six people I’ve talked to who’ve listened to it all say it sounds ‘fresher.’”
The upcoming album holds sentimental value for Fogerty as it sees the inclusion of his sons, Shane and Tyler, in the backing band. Collaborating with his sons is not new to Fogerty, as in May 2020, he released a CCR covers EP titled “Fogerty’s Factory,” featuring live performances recorded during the quarantine era of the pandemic. These performances were showcased on various platforms like NPR’s Tiny Desk and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years” is now available for pre-order on ConcordRecords.com. The album comprises preview tracks including “Up Around The Bend,” “Have You Ever Seen The Rain,” and “Porterville,” offering fans a taste of what to expect from Fogerty’s re-imagined classics. With the masterful recreation of these iconic songs, Fogerty aims to bring a new dimension and depth to the familiar tunes, enhanced by modern fidelity.
Fans eagerly anticipate the release of this revamped collection of CCR hits, infused with fresh energy and a renewed spirit. Fogerty’s dedication to maintaining the authenticity of the original recordings while adding a contemporary flair showcases his passion for preserving the legacy of Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the release date approaches, excitement builds among music lovers eager to experience the timeless magic of CCR through a modern lens.
