Members of a 90s rock band have kept a secret album hidden for 12 years
Members of a renowned rock band from the 1990s are preparing to unveil a long-kept secret – an album that has been in the works for over 12 years. Robert DeLeo and Dean DeLeo, the bassist and guitarist of Stone Temple Pilots, embarked on this musical venture back in 2013, following their separation from their former lead singer, Scott Weiland, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock. The DeLeo brothers, along with singer Pete Shoulder and drummer Brian Tichy, collaborated on this album that has been kept under wraps for over a decade.
Shortly after recording this album, the project was set aside when the band recruited the late Chester Bennington from Linkin Park to join Stone Temple Pilots. Together, along with Eric Kretz on drums, they released an EP titled “High Rise” in October 2013 and even went on a brief tour with Bennington. Unfortunately, this sidelined the previously recorded album featuring Pete Shoulder. Robert DeLeo shared with UCR that the release of the 2013 album might finally see the light of day next year. Nonetheless, this album will not bear the Stone Temple Pilots name, as it was formed without the involvement of Eric Kretz and the current STP vocalist, Jeff Gutt.
According to Dean DeLeo, this upcoming music project is entirely distinct from Stone Temple Pilots and is a creative outlet for the DeLeo brothers to explore new musical horizons. Having previously collaborated under different band names, such as Talk Show in 1997 and Army of Anyone in 2006, the brothers are no strangers to side projects. Despite not disclosing the new band’s name, DeLeo emphasized the importance of honoring the STP lineup’s integrity.
While an official release date for the 2013 recording remains undisclosed, the DeLeo brothers have joined forces with Pete Shoulder to form a new band called One More Satellite. Their debut album, featuring the lead single “Paper Over the Cracks,” is set to be released on July 18. Meanwhile, Eric Kretz and Robert DeLeo are preparing for a summer tour with The Joe Perry Project, a group led by Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, with Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes on lead vocals. The tour is scheduled to kick off at the Boch Center Wang Theatre in Boston on August 19.
Stone Temple Pilots, famous for 1990s hits like “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline,” and the Grammy-winning “Plush,” have undergone various lineup changes over the years. Following the untimely passing of Scott Weiland in 2015, Jeff Gutt has taken the helm as the band’s current vocalist, alongside Kretz and the DeLeo brothers. Exciting times lie ahead for fans of the ‘90s rock band as they eagerly await the release of the long-anticipated 2013 album from DeLeo brothers, signaling a new chapter in their musical journey.
