back burner in recent years as Adam Levy focused on his harmonious trio Turn Turn Turn (whose other co-leaders Barb Brynstad and Savannah Smith added vocals to this new record). Noah also stayed busy playing drums with Brian Setzer, Five for Fighting, Soul Asylum, Zeppo and more, plus he built his own recording studio.
The Honeydogs will ride again to promote the new record. Their hometown album release party will be at the Green Room in Uptown on the day of release, July 25, with Molly Maher opening. They also have gigs booked at the Lutsong Festival in Lutsen on July 12 and the Rieder Homestead barn series in Delano on July 26.
“Algebra for Broken Hearts” is now available for preorder via Jullian Records. The original lineup of The Honeydogs is back after nine years with a new album titled “Algebra for Broken Hearts.” This album marks the first in almost three decades to feature the band’s original members, comprising Tommy Borscheid, Noah Levy, Trent Norton, and Adam Levy, the lead singer.
After nearly 28 years, the iconic Twin Cities rock group, The Honeydogs, have announced the release of “Algebra for Broken Hearts” along with the unveiling of their first single, “Irish Goodbye.” While the band’s last album was released in 2016 under the title “Love & Cannibalism,” this new album marks the return of the original guitarist, Tommy Borscheid, for the first time since their 1997 record, “Seen a Ghost.”
Expressing his excitement, Adam Levy, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, commented on the reunion with Borscheid, stating, “It was good to have Tommy back — he’s got fire in his belly and we missed it.” Borscheid, who has been living in Houston, recently reunited with the band in June 2023 at First Avenue to commemorate the reissue of their 1996 album, “Everything, I Bet You.” Following this reunion, the band headed to Creation Audio studio in Minneapolis last summer to work with producer John Fields.
The lead single, “Irish Goodbye,” gives a glimpse of the energy and tempo of the upcoming album. Energetic and up-tempo, the song draws comparisons to bands like Kinks and Cheap Trick. In the song, Levy sings about the aftermath of a relationship, expressing emotional lyrics like, “I gave her the Milky Way, the Taj Mahal, the Golden Gate. All I got was an Irish goodbye.”
Although The Honeydogs were never officially on a hiatus, recent years saw the band taking a back seat as Adam Levy focused on his trio, Turn Turn Turn, featuring Barb Brynstad and Savannah Smith. Meanwhile, Noah Levy kept himself occupied by playing with various bands and establishing his recording studio.
The Honeydogs are gearing up to promote their latest album with a hometown release party at the Green Room in Uptown on July 25, alongside upcoming gigs at the Lutsong Festival and the Rieder Homestead barn series. “Algebra for Broken Hearts” is now available for preorder via Jullian Records, offering fans an opportunity to experience the long-awaited return of The Honeydogs with their original lineup.
