The Dropkick Murphys, a Celtic-punk band hailing from Quincy, recently announced the release of their 13th studio album, titled “For The People.” Scheduled for digital release on July 4, with CD and vinyl versions to follow on October 10, the album will feature an additional five bonus tracks. The album cover was designed by Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number One.

Described as a representation of the band’s identity and values, the new album reflects the group’s stance on social and political issues in the United States. In response to recent events, particularly President Donald Trump’s policies, the Dropkick Murphys have been vocal in their opposition. They even performed at the “Hands Off!” rally in Boston, where they protested against Trump and Elon Musk.

Frontman Ken Casey emphasized the band’s long-standing commitment to speaking out about important issues. He highlighted the significance of thinking about the future generation, expressing the importance of standing up against injustices and valuing relationships with loved ones.

Accompanying the album announcement, the band released a music video for the lead single, “Who’ll Stand With Us?” The song serves as a call for unity and a plea for a return to a more rational discourse in society. It addresses themes of class warfare and criticizes the actions of wealthy individuals who they believe are contributing to the division within the community.

The Dropkick Murphys’ involvement in political activism extends beyond their music. They performed at the “Hand’s Off!” rally, emphasizing their support for democracy and their opposition to autocratic leadership. The band aims to use their platform to advocate for the interests of all, rejecting any concentration of power in a single individual.

In addition to their new album and single, the Dropkick Murphys have a busy summer ahead. They are set to perform at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of the Unite for Veterans, Unite for America event on the 81st anniversary of D-Day. Following this, they will embark on the “Summer Of Discontent Tour,” co-headlined with Bad Religion.

Furthermore, the band is lined up to headline the new Irish music festival, Seisiún, in Boston in September, alongside The Pogues. The event will feature a tribute to the late lead singer, Shane MacGowan, with The Pogues dedicating their set to him. The Dropkick Murphys will honor MacGowan with the final track on their new album, titled “One Last Goodbye – Tribute To Shane,” featuring collaboration with The Scratch.

As the Dropkick Murphys continue to make music and take a stand on social and political issues, their upcoming album and tour demonstrate their unwavering commitment to using their platform for positive change and unity.
