Long Island’s Mariah Carey has recently dropped her first new single in many years, titled “Type Dangerous,” which serves as the lead track from her upcoming 16th album. The last time Carey released an album was back in 2018 with “Caution,” which climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The new single, “Type Dangerous,” is aiming to be a sultry summertime hit and has an interesting twist as it samples a classic hip-hop track from the iconic duo Eric B. & Rakim.

The sampled track from Eric B. & Rakim, titled “Eric B. Is President,” was released back in 1986 and features a distinctive and memorable refrain by Rakim that says “Make ’em clap to this.” Carey kicks off the song by crooning a tweaked version of the original intro, thanking DJs for their support. Throughout the song, Rakim’s refrain provides a rhythmic backdrop as Carey portrays herself as a glamorous pop star with a penchant for thrill-seeking, edgy individuals.

In “Type Dangerous,” Carey showcases a blend of singing and rapping as she boasts about her style and charisma. With lyrics like “I came in the door dripped in Balenci / Cropped leather coat and some 9-inch Fendis,” Carey exudes confidence and allure. The song progresses with Carey expressing her need for space while signing autographs and navigating her way through adoring crowds, creating an image of a star who is always in the limelight.

The chorus of “Type Dangerous” takes on a dreamy tone as Carey sings about seeking out the “dangerous type,” adding an element of mystery and allure to the track. The accompanying lyric video for the song, released on YouTube, captures Carey posing in front of a sleek black sports car outside a luxurious mansion, dressed in a sultry outfit that perfectly matches the song’s vibe. Additional scenes of Carey behind the wheel, with the wind tousling her hair, add to the ambiance set by the song.

Fans can expect a music video for “Type Dangerous” in the near future, directed by the seasoned music video director Joseph Kahn, known for his work on Carey’s 2019 hit video “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Leading up to the release of the single, Carey has been building anticipation through her social media channels, giving fans a sneak peek into the creation of the song and the upcoming album. While details about the album, including the official title and release date, are yet to be unveiled, the excitement surrounding Carey’s return to the music scene is palpable.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking album “The Emancipation of Mimi,” Carey recently treated fans to a special two-disc set featuring remixes, bonus tracks, radio mixes, and a cappella versions of her iconic songs. With the release of “Type Dangerous” and the promise of more music to come, Mariah Carey continues to captivate audiences with her timeless talent and unwavering star power.
