Kiss the Tiger returns to share endless love
d their musical journey in 2017 and quickly became a staple in the local music scene in Minneapolis. With their upcoming album, “Infinite Love,” the band dives into the intricacies of desire and relationships, showcasing their growth and evolution as musicians.
Lead singer Meghan Kreidler and her husband Michael Anderson, along with other friends and a drummer found on Craigslist, initially started the band as a fun hobby. It all began with a show at the Nomad, near Palmer’s Bar, which led them to pursue recording music and further establish themselves in the music industry.
Kreidler’s portrayal of Tiger Lily in Peter Pan at the Children’s Theatre served as the inspiration behind the band’s name, “Kiss the Tiger.” The band honed their skills at local venues like Palmer’s Bar, 331 Club, the Triple Rock, and Hexagon Bar, staying true to their roots in the Twin Cities. Minnesota’s supportive environment for local artists, fueled by platforms like The Current and KFAI community radio, has played a significant role in Kiss the Tiger’s success.
While their initial sound was raw and undiluted rock ‘n’ roll, Kiss the Tiger has evolved over the years, embracing a mix of genres like punk, alternative, and country with heartfelt lyrics. Kreidler’s influences have shifted from artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Tina Turner to more contemporary musicians like Annie Clark and Ellie Rowsell, allowing her to explore different facets of her voice and storytelling within their music.
Drawing inspiration from their relationship and the literature they were reading at the time, Kiss the Tiger’s upcoming album delves into themes of love, miscommunication, and conflict. Kreidler’s growth as a songwriter, influenced by Anderson’s music-making process, has been instrumental in shaping their latest musical endeavors.
Despite their achievements, such as opening for Chris Daughtry at Canterbury Park and performing at the State Fair Grandstand alongside Lake Street Dive, Kiss the Tiger remains grounded and focused on their artistry. Their latest single, “I Wanna Love Ya,” is a testament to their musical evolution and passion for creating music that resonates with their audience.
As they gear up for the release of their album on September 5 and embark on a tour across the East Coast, Kiss the Tiger remains grateful for the support of their fans, both old and new. Kreidler cherishes the opportunity to perform for familiar faces and strangers alike, sharing their music and live energy with audiences who appreciate their craft.
