Newton Fest and Newton Alumni Weekend kick off today
Newton Fest is making a grand return this year with a variety of exciting events for the local community to enjoy. The City of Newton is hosting its annual two-day celebration, which kicks off today with several free activities. The lineup includes a captivating magic show at the Newton Public Library, a screening of the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” at Capital II Theatre, a lively community pool party at Maytag Pool, and an exhilarating UV Foam Party at Maytag Park. Newton Mayor Evelyn George expressed her sentiments about Newton Fest, highlighting that the event goes beyond just being a series of events and activities.
Mayor George emphasized that Newton Fest is a genuine celebration of everything that makes Newton special. She believes it embodies the essence of growing up in Iowa, offering residents the opportunity to partake in various community amenities. The event also serves as a platform for reconnecting with old friends and forming new connections with individuals whom you might not encounter on a regular basis.
The festivities continue into Saturday with a wide array of engaging activities. Newton Main Street and the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce are organizing a car show, while the Newton YMCA is hosting a Newton Fest Pickleball Tournament. Families can enjoy a Family Fun Zone and Safety Fest at Maytag Park, followed by a lively concert by Damon Dotson at Maytag Bowl and the Fierce Faith Music Concert at Community Heights Alliance Church. For those interested in exploring the full schedule of Newton Fest activities, detailed information can be found on the event’s official website, newtonfest.org.
In addition to Newton Fest, the Newton Alumni Association is hosting its annual Class Reunion Weekend concurrently with the festivities. The weekend program features tonight’s All Class Reunion at Legacy Plaza, as well as a Brunch and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday morning. Participants can also take part in the Jack Chadwick Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday. This provides an excellent opportunity for former classmates to come together, reminisce about old times, and celebrate the bonds formed during their time in Newton.
Overall, Newton Fest and Newton Alumni Weekend are set to provide an exciting and nostalgic experience for both current residents and former Newtonians. With a diverse range of activities and events planned, there is something for everyone to enjoy as the community comes together to celebrate the city’s rich history and vibrant spirit.
