Zak Starkey’s band, Mantra of the Cosmos, has received a significant boost with the addition of some notable names. The band, which features Andy Bell from Oasis and Shaun Ryder and Mark “Bez” Berry from Happy Mondays, now includes Sean Ono Lennon and James McCartney for their latest track called “Rip Off.”

In an Instagram post, Starkey shared that Sean, James, and Shaun have all contributed vocals to the song. Starkey clarified in an interview with The Telegraph that the new track is not an attempt to replicate the sound of their famous fathers’ band. He emphasized, “No, it’s not [like a Beatles song]. It’s like Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it. It’s Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos. It’s still my band.”

This collaboration is not the first time James and Sean have worked together on a musical project. They previously released a song called “Primrose Hill” last year. You can listen to their latest collaboration, “Rip Off,” below.

It has been a tumultuous period for Starkey, who recently faced a rollercoaster journey with The Who. Initially dismissed from the band, he was later re-hired, only to be informed shortly after that he was “retired.” In his interview with The Telegraph, Starkey, who has also drummed for Oasis, disclosed that he declined The Who’s reunion tour as he believed he would be participating in their farewell tour. Ultimately, he finds himself not part of any tour.

In conclusion, the music world is buzzing with excitement over the collaboration of these talented artists in “Rip Off.” With these iconic musicians coming together, fans are eager to see what other surprises Mantra of the Cosmos has in store for them in the future.
