North Carolina’s own Wednesday is back with exciting news for fans. The band recently unveiled their latest single “Elderberry Wine,” serving as a preview for their upcoming album. The announcement of the new album, titled “Bleeds,” comes hot on the heels of the single release, with a new track titled “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)” being shared for eager listeners.

Produced under the guidance of Alex Farrar, “Bleeds” is scheduled for release on September 19 by Dead Oceans. This record will mark Wednesday’s sixth studio album, following their acclaimed 2023 release, “Rat Saw God,” which garnered praise from well-regarded sources like Exclaim! and others.

In a recent press release, Karly Hartzman, the band’s founder, frontwoman, and primary lyricist, expressed her excitement about “Bleeds,” referring to it as the spiritual successor to “Rat Saw God” and the quintessential embodiment of “Wednesday Creek Rock” in album form. She noted the extensive time and effort dedicated to crafting this record, claiming that “Bleeds” truly encapsulates the essence of what Wednesday’s music is meant to be.

Reflecting on their latest single, Hartzman shared the inspiration behind “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On).” The track draws from a haunting tale recounted by a friend who retrieved a body from a West Virginia creek. The lyrical phrase “I wound up here by holdin on” was borrowed from a poetry book by Evan Gray, a friend of Hartzman, which struck a chord with her during a tour with bandmate Jake “MJ” Lenderman. This singular line sparked the creation of the entire song, woven in Hartzman’s unique storytelling style.

As fans eagerly await the album’s release, they can get a taste of Wednesday’s sound by watching the music video for “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On).” Additionally, the tracklist for “Bleeds” offers a glimpse into the diverse range of sonic experiences that the album promises to deliver.
