Wednesday set to release new album ‘Bleeds’
Wednesday is making a comeback with their latest album, Bleeds, set to release on September 19 via Dead Oceans. Known for their unique Southern rock sound, the band promises a collection of tracks that stay true to their signature “bootgaze” style. While their previous albums were focused on exploration, Bleeds is described as the culmination of their musical identity. Frontwoman Karly Hartzman expressed, “Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God, and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album. This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like.”
The announcement of the album also brings the release of their latest single, “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On).” This track follows the release of the twangy “Elderberry Wine” and features emotive lyrics that paint a picture of a life lived in the face of adversity. Hartzman revealed the inspiration behind the song, sharing a poignant story from a friend in West Virginia. The haunting lyric, “‘I wound up here by holdin on,’ is a line from my friend Evan Gray’s poetry book: Thickets Swamped in a Fence-Coated Briars. He gave me and Jake a copy of it to read on tour once and that line stuck out to me as pure genius so I stole it and wrote the rest of the song in my own words around it.”
Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Joriel Cura, adding another layer of depth to the storytelling of the song. The album artwork and tracklist for Bleeds have also been unveiled, further building anticipation for the release.
Fans can catch Wednesday on their upcoming tour dates, including performances at festivals like Project Pabst and LEVITATION, as well as headlining shows in various cities across the US and Canada. The band’s live performances are known for their energy and passion, making them a must-see act for music lovers.
