Mo Lowda & the Humble Interviewed About Their New Album Debut at Green River Festival
The Green River Festival, held at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Massachusetts, is a lively and family-friendly event featuring a variety of bands and musicians performing on multiple stages. This year’s edition, taking place from June 20–22, includes a lineup featuring artists like Mt. Joy, Kabaka Pyramid, Mark Mulcahy, Courtney Barnett, Funky Dawgz Brass Band, and Waxahatchee. Among the performers is Mo Lowda & the Humble, an indie rock band hailing from Philadelphia. The quartet – comprising vocalist and guitarist Jordan Caiola, guitarist Kirby Sybert, bassist Jeff Lucci, and drummer Shane Woods – is set to take the Main Stage on the first day of the festival at 6:30pm.
Coinciding with their performance is the release of their latest album, Tailing The Ghost. In a recent conversation with Caiola and Woods, they shared insights into the album-making process, which involved recording entirely on the road, with most songs being cut live. This seven-month process included booking time in cabins for writing sessions and visiting various studios across the country during tour breaks. This unique approach allowed the band to maintain a tight musical flow while incorporating new experimental elements into their sound.
Mo Lowda & the Humble, known for their self-produced music, embraced new recording techniques for the album, focusing more on writing and performing rather than engineering. The band’s emphasis on finding interesting tones and continuously experimenting during the writing process led to incorporating ambient layers and fresh sounds into their music.
Their music video for the single “Sara’s Got Big Plans” features psychedelic imagery created by a Ukrainian artist, emphasizing visual appeal while complementing the song’s essence. The band’s distinct sound, blending Americana, R&B, pop, and rock with synth-laden textures, stems from their diverse musical backgrounds and influences. Drawing inspiration from bands like Local Natives, Phoenix, and My Morning Jacket, Mo Lowda & the Humble crafted a unique artistic vision that sets them apart in the music scene.
As the band gears up for the release of Tailing The Ghost at the Green River Festival, they express excitement at sharing their new music with audiences. Playing at the festival on the day of the album’s release is a special experience for the band, who are looking forward to performing live and connecting with listeners. The anticipation of presenting their new songs to a crowd and immersing themselves in a natural festival setting adds to their enthusiasm for the event.
