Strange Pilgrim premieres new single “One Day” from upcoming album ‘Too Bright Planet’
Portland-based indie-rock band, Strange Pilgrim, recently unveiled their latest single, “One Day,” from their upcoming album, Too Bright Planet, set to release on September 26 through Royal Oakie Records. Building on the success of their self-titled debut in 2022 and the Embers EP, the band’s new single offers a glimpse into a more polished and expansive musical landscape envisioned by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Josh Barnhart.
“One Day” features the talents of seasoned musicians Pat Spurgeon (Rogue Wave, Dandy Warhols) and Elliott Kay, enhancing the band’s signature sound. The track opens with a subtly unsettling beat and a swirling guitar melody that explores themes of affirmation and futility. Barnhart describes the song’s introspective nature as a blend of resignation and progress, marking a departure from their earlier works.
Produced by Barnhart and mixed by Cory Gray (Califone), Too Bright Planet promises a diverse range of musical influences. Recorded live at Bocce Recording, the album draws inspiration from the jam-rock of The Grateful Dead to the experimental sounds of Brian Eno, all filtered through a lens that evokes the atmospheric vibes of ’70s Fleetwood Mac or Luna’s Penthouse. While their debut album tackled themes of isolation, Too Bright Planet embraces themes of acceptance, renewal, and moving forward, drawing inspiration from literary figures like Robert Hass and filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. “One Day” offers a poignant preview of the band’s new, introspective journey.
The album is set to release soon, offering fans a broader sonic experience from the band. With a shift towards themes of growth and self-awareness, Too Bright Planet showcases the band’s evolution and musical maturity. Accompanied by a stellar lineup of musicians and an array of influences, this album promises to be a significant step forward for Strange Pilgrim.
Listeners can enjoy the new track, “One Day,” and preorder the upcoming album, Too Bright Planet, through various online platforms. With their latest offering, Strange Pilgrim continues to captivate audiences with their unique sound and introspective lyrics, setting the stage for their highly anticipated sophomore album release.
