Top Summer Concerts in Charlotte
Looking ahead to the summer, Charlotte’s music scene is heating up with a diverse lineup of concerts featuring legends, local favorites, and everything in between. From Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band bringing a mix of his solo work and Beatles classics to Ovens Auditorium, to Three Dog Night performing hits like “An Old Fashioned Love Song” and “Joy to the World” at the same venue, the city is in for a real treat.
For those who remember Doubting Thomas from their performances at The Double Door Inn, the band will be back at Visulite Theatre on July 11, sharing the stage with Shake the Dust. Meanwhile, Talking Heads tribute band Same As It Ever Was will be at The Amp Ballantyne on the same night. Although they don’t try to emulate David Byrne’s appearance, their sound is always spot-on and draws a lively crowd.
Other notable acts include Leftover Salmon, known for their fusion of bluegrass, rock, country, and zydeco, performing at The Amp on July 13. The Head and the Heart, an indie-alternative group, will take the stage at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on July 15 in support of their new album, “Aperture.”
In the rock genre, Knight Theater will see performances by The Wallflowers, Ryan Adams, and Todd Rundgren in consecutive nights, with a mix of alt-country, classic hits, and high-energy melodies. Fans of melodic rock can catch the Goo Goo Dolls at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on July 25, followed by Sister Hazel at the Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius the next night.
As July wraps up, Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes will bring their unique sound to Neighborhood Theatre on July 27, combining elements of Peruvian cumbia with Prophet’s personal experiences. Wrapping up with country music, Vince Gill, known for his exceptional guitar skills, will perform at Ovens Auditorium at the end of July.
August is no less exciting, with performances by Blackberry Smoke, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Travis Tritt, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and The Verve Pipe at various venues across the city. Genre-blending jam band Umphrey’s McGee will close out the summer with their eclectic sound at The Fillmore at the NC Music Factory on August 30.
