With a strong affinity for black metal, Reeder finds the genre’s dark, atmospheric, and unconventional sounds captivating. Fans eagerly awaiting new music from KING DIAMOND can take solace in the fact that progress is being made. Speaking on the Heavy Demons radio show, guitarist Andy La Rocque shared an update on the band’s much-anticipated horror trilogy, beginning with Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920.

La Rocque disclosed that work on new material began before the last U.S. tour, with much still left to record. Assurances were given that the band is actively engaged in the process, which will continue once the European tour concludes. The guitarist elaborated on KING DIAMOND’s intricate collaborative songwriting approach, detailing the meticulous effort that goes into each track’s creation. He revealed that he typically crafts comprehensive demos complete with programmed drum tracks, keyboards, and guitars – sometimes even including solos that may make it to the final album.

King Diamond’s own contributions vary slightly, being described as more straightforward with the guitars, which are later re-recorded by La Rocque. Collaboration extends to other band members who record their parts in home studios, adding layers to the music. La Rocque highlighted drummer Matt Thompson’s studio in Dallas, where he reworks demos by muting the drums, recording his parts, and sending them back for adjustments. The process is streamlined for bassist Pontus Egberg and guitarist Mike Wead, ensuring a cohesive final product.

Once all instrumental tracks are perfected, King Diamond steps in to record vocals, adding his signature haunting tone to the music. The creative freedom doesn’t stop there, with room for adjustments and additions to enhance the tracks further. La Rocque emphasized the flexibility in the recording process, allowing for changes to be made at any time, ensuring a dynamic and creative approach to their music.

The European tour kickstarted on June 4 at Sweden Rock Festival, offering fans a preview of what’s to come with the release of the new studio track “Spider Lilly” in December 2024. Working with renowned producer Arthur Rizk for the first time, King Diamond expanded their creative horizons.
