John Oates to Release New Self-Titled LP in August, Returning to R&B and Pop Sounds
John Oates is gearing up for an exciting new release, with his self-titled solo album set to hit the music scene on August 29, showcasing some unique collaborations with special guest artists. This new project by the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer promises to take listeners on a journey reminiscent of the classic R&B and pop sounds that defined the ’70s and ’80s. Oates drew inspiration from emerging talents that have captured his attention, including the soulful, eight-piece band Lawrence from New York City and soul singer-songwriter Devon Gilfillian. Their music inspired Oates to create the first single, “Enough Is Enough,” and collaborated with them on the track. Gilfillian’s involvement extends to co-writing “Real Thing” and co-writing and performing on “Mending.”
The album contains a diverse selection of tracks that showcase Oates’ musical versatility. Songs like “Pushin’ A Rock” encourage listeners to persevere through challenging times, while “Dreaming Of Brazil” transports audiences with its Bossa Nova-inspired melodies and features Wendy Moten’s evocative vocals. Another standout track is “Bajo La Luz De La Luna,” which Oates specifically wrote for the film “Gringa,” set in Mexico. Furthermore, Oates delves into the pandemic experience with the reflective “Disconnected” and explores themes of solitude and appreciation for loved ones on “World’s Gone Wrong.”
One of the closing tracks on the album is Oates’ rendition of “Walking In Memphis,” offering a fresh perspective on the classic hit. Additionally, fans can enjoy a remixed version of the song by electronic music producer Grabbitz. To bring these new songs to life on stage, Oates has assembled a new band and is preparing for a series of live performances. The journey begins with a special kick-off show in Nashville at The Analog at Hutton Hotel on June 29, followed by dates at iconic venues like the Troubadour, The Rockaways in NYC, and Summerfest.
The complete tracklist for Oates’ upcoming album includes a mix of soulful, introspective, and groovy tunes that showcase his musical prowess. Whether it’s the infectious beats of “Enough Is Enough” featuring Lawrence, the heartfelt lyrics of “Mending” featuring Devon Gilfillian, or the contemplative mood of “World Gone Wrong,” each track offers a unique listening experience. With his new release, Oates continues to captivate audiences with his musical storytelling and inventive collaborations, promising a memorable and engaging musical journey for fans.
