Madison Turner recently unveiled her latest offering, ‘Curtsy When You Land,’ marking her third album release. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Madison infuses a mix of punk, alt-rock, ska, skacore, and folk elements, crafting an enticing collection of eleven tracks that showcase her growth as an artist. The album unfolds like a cinematic experience, drawing listeners into Madison Turner’s world with poignant and witty lyrics.

Working in collaboration with Pedro Aida at Audio Verite in Richmond, Virginia, Madison shared insights into her decision to record at the studio. A prior experience recording a single for a Say-10 Records compilation paved the way for her to reunite with Pedro for the full-length project. The album production journey spanned approximately a year, allowing ample time for exploration and layering of sounds to enrich each track.

Reflecting on her previous studio experiences, Madison contrasted her recent project with ‘Curtsy When You Land’ against her 2018 record, ‘A Comprehensive Guide To Burning Out,’ created in Tallahassee. The flexibility of a local studio paired with Pedro’s expertise offered a conducive environment for unleashing creative ideas and fine-tuning tracks over several sessions.

During the recording process, Pedro lent his voice to the album’s spoken intro, contributing to the cinematic narrative that threads through the tracks. The theme of escapism through entertainment resonates in the album’s artwork, featuring a 35mm film reel, and the album title itself, derived from a powerful lyric in the song, “Diegetic.”

Delving into her artistic process further, Madison emphasized the significance of consuming various forms of entertainment, such as movies, television, video games, and music, as a means of personal respite. These mediums serve as a source of inspiration and insight into the creative minds of others, offering a reprieve from the stresses of daily life.

The album title, ‘Curtsy When You Land,’ encapsulates the sentiment of gracefully concluding a performance, mirroring the album’s overarching theme of closure and positivity. By drawing from the essence of “Diegetic,” Madison found a fitting title that encapsulated the essence of her musical journey.

Madison’s approach to curating her latest album underscores her commitment to storytelling through music, intertwining personal experiences with universal themes of resilience and artistic expression. ‘Curtsy When You Land’ stands as a testament to Madison Turner’s evolution as a musician and her ability to captivate audiences with her thought-provoking lyrics and eclectic sound.
