Steven Van Zandt, a prominent member of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, will be taking a break from performing due to unforeseen emergency surgery. On Monday, Van Zandt shared with his fans that he had to undergo an emergency appendix operation in Spain. This unfortunate setback prevented him from joining Bruce Springsteen and the rest of the band for their scheduled performance at Reale Arena in San Sebastian that took place on Tuesday night. Despite this unexpected turn of events, Van Zandt expressed optimism that he would be able to make a swift recovery and return to the stage within a week’s time.

Little Steven, as he is commonly known, explained on Instagram that what he initially thought was a case of food poisoning turned out to be a serious case of appendicitis. Fortunately, he received exceptional care at a hospital in San Sebastian, and the operation was successful. He is hopeful that he will be able to rejoin the band for at least one of their upcoming shows in Milan. Van Zandt expressed his gratitude for the support and well wishes he had received from his fans and assured them that he would be back on stage soon.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, is currently in the midst of their European tour, with their next stops planned in Germany, followed by two concerts in Milan, Italy. While no additional tour dates are scheduled for the remainder of the year, fans can eagerly anticipate the band’s return to the stage once Van Zandt has fully recovered.

In addition to his musical contributions, the 74-year-old Van Zandt is recognized for his work with other bands such as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, as well as his own group, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. Apart from his music career, he is also known for his work as a radio host and actor, notably portraying Silvio Dante on the television series “The Sopranos” from 1999 to 2007.

Van Zandt’s health scare is not the only one the E Street Band has faced in recent times. Bruce Springsteen himself postponed tour dates in 2023 due to peptic ulcer disease, and his wife, Patti Scialfa, a member of the band, revealed last year that she had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

Fans of Bruce Springsteen can look forward to seeing his life story portrayed in the upcoming film “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” with actors such as Jeremy Allen White, Johnny Cannizzaro, and Jeremy Strong taking on key roles in depicting the rock singer, Van Zandt, and producer Jon Landau, respectively. The band’s recent tour, which included performances in cities like Syracuse and Albany, has also been captured in a documentary film available on Disney+ and Hulu.

As Van Zandt takes the time he needs to recuperate, fans are undoubtedly sending him their best wishes for a speedy recovery and eagerly anticipating his return to the stage alongside Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The band’s dedication to their craft and their unwavering passion for music continue to inspire audiences around the world, and fans are looking forward to the day when they can once again experience the magic of a live performance by these legendary musicians.
