Tchotchke reveal new album ‘Playin’ Dumb’ and premiere music video for latest single
New York-based band Tchotchke has revealed the upcoming release of their latest album, “Playin’ Dumb,” set to debut on September 5th. This album, consisting of 11 tracks, was produced by The Lemon Twigs. Among the songs is a newly released single titled “Poor Girl.” The musicians have also shared a music video for this latest track.
The creation of “Playin’ Dumb” took place in a studio located above a vegetable warehouse. This collaboration marks the second time Tchotchke has worked with The Lemon Twigs on producing their music, including the single “Poor Girl.” Emily Tooraen, the band’s guitarist, delved into the concept behind this new track, stating, “We restricted ourselves to developing the characters of three unappreciative and disconnected girls, all within four lines per character. The goal was to underscore the idea that these girls were far from being ‘poor,’ rather they were exceedingly privileged to have self-inflicted dilemmas that they agonize over. The song encapsulates the brief narratives of these girls while exuding a bright and breezy Beach Boys vibe. As a surprising revelation post-completion of the track, we collectively discovered that we had unintentionally portrayed each other as the antagonistic versions of ourselves all along.”
Consisting of Emily Tooraen, Anastasia Sanchez on drums, and Eva Chambers on bass and keyboards, Tchotchke was founded in Los Angeles a few years ago before relocating to the East Coast. The group released a self-titled album in 2022 and has performed live alongside well-known bands such as Broncho and King Tuff.
The album, “Playin’ Dumb,” by Tchotchke, includes the following tracklist:
01 The Game
02 Did You Hear?
03 Kisses
04 Poor Girl
05 Davide
06 Jealousy
07 Now I Love You
08 Skipping Around
