PERTURBATOR enlists KRISTOFFER RYGG from ULVER for latest single “Apocalypse Now”
Renowned pioneer of synthwave music, Perturbator, also known as James Kent, has announced the forthcoming release of his highly anticipated album, Age of Aquarius, scheduled to hit the shelves on October 10 through Nuclear Blast Records. The first single from the album, “Apocalypse Now,” features Kristoffer Rygg from the iconic band Ulver, further solidifying Perturbator’s distinctive sound.
Blending elements of electronic music with post-punk, goth, and techno influences, Age of Aquarius promises to be Perturbator’s most thematically ambitious and musically diverse work to date. The lead single, “Apocalypse Now,” is an intense, apocalyptic track characterized by heavy synths, industrial beats, and Rygg’s powerful vocals.
The music video for “Apocalypse Now,” directed by David Fitt, delves into the concept of self-destruction within humanity, exploring the repercussions of power, war, and individualism. Kent elaborates on the theme of the song, stating, “Apocalypse Now is about the systematic destruction we cause to our own kind. It’s our inability to coexist and the vilification of ‘the other’ that accelerates the end of our way of life.”
Age of Aquarius is a concept album divided into two distinct parts: the first section delves into human conflict, violence, and misanthropy, while the second half explores individuality and the perils of group mentality. Each track on the album serves as a scene in a narrative depicting a dystopian world. The album features collaborations with Alcest, Author & Punisher, and Greta Link, adding depth and diversity to Perturbator’s cinematic approach to music.
Kent reflects on the overarching theme of the album, stating, “It’s about how modern society is defined by conflict and how personal identity is often lost in collective thinking.” Fans can now pre-order Age of Aquarius to immerse themselves in Perturbator’s visionary world. To support the album release, Perturbator is embarking on his largest UK and European tour yet, including headline shows in London and Paris, among other major cities.
With its innovative blend of genres and thought-provoking themes, Age of Aquarius promises to be a standout release in Perturbator’s already impressive discography, offering listeners a glimpse into a dark and immersive musical landscape. Stay tuned for the album’s release in October and catch Perturbator on tour for a unique live experience that combines electronic music with a cinematic flair.
