Evanescence achieves first #1 on ‘Billboard’ Mainstream Rock Airplay chart
Evanescence has achieved a milestone in their career by securing the top spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart for the first time. The band’s track “Afterlife,” which was featured in Netflix’s animated series Devil May Cry, has propelled them to this remarkable achievement. Previously, Evanescence had reached a peak of #5 on Mainstream Rock Airplay back in 2006 with the song “Call Me When You’re Sober.”
The journey to the number one position on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart has been long for Evanescence, dating back to their debut on the chart in 2003 with the popular song “Bring Me to Life,” which surprisingly only made it to #11 at the time. The 22-year gap between “Bring Me to Life” and “Afterlife” topping the charts sets a record for the longest duration a musical act has waited to reach number one on Mainstream Rock Airplay since Jeff Beck accomplished this feat after 37 years. Jeff Beck, the late guitar virtuoso, made his debut on Mainstream Rock Airplay in 1985 and finally clinched the top spot in 2022 with the song “Patient Number 9,” a collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne.
This achievement comes after the release of Evanescence’s 2021 album, The Bitter Truth, further solidifying their presence and impact in the music industry. Adding to their recent successes, Evanescence collaborated with K.Flay for the song “Fight Like a Girl,” featured in the John Wick spinoff movie Ballerina.
Evanescence’s rise to the top of the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart highlights their enduring popularity and ability to captivate audiences with their unique sound and artistic expression. This accomplishment reflects their consistent growth and evolution as a band over the years. With a dedicated fan base and a reputation for delivering powerful and emotionally resonant music, Evanescence continues to make waves in the music scene.
