To commemorate the 35th anniversary of its release, Paradise Lost’s seminal debut album, Lost Paradise, is set to be reissued on CD and vinyl with newly remastered audio by Jaime Gomez at Orgone Studios.

As true pioneers of the gothic death/doom metal genre, Paradise Lost formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1988 and quickly made a name for themselves. Their second album, Gothic, contributed to defining the genre, showcasing a darker, more brooding style that set them apart from the speed-driven death metal of the time.

During the early years, Paradise Lost released on Peaceville Records, alongside other British doom metal legends like My Dying Bride and Anathema. Albums such as Gothic and Lost Paradise helped solidify the label as a hub for British doom passion. Their subsequent signing with Music For Nations marked a shift towards international recognition as their sound evolved into a more melodic and accessible realm.

Their latest album, Ascension, due out on September 19th, is Paradise Lost’s first release in five years. The striking album cover features the painting The Court of Death (1870-1902) by British artist George Frederic Watts, adorning the Tate Gallery in London. A somber portrayal of Death as an angel surrounded by allegorical figures captures the essence of the album’s dark and tormented soundscapes.

Lead vocalist Nick Holmes describes Ascension as a “cavalcade of molten misery, a vigorous sorrow-filled stroll through a wicked world of glorious triumph and pitiful tragedy.” The mournful verses and foreboding riffs on the record resonate with a bleak, prophetic vision akin to the painting’s narrative.

Paradise Lost is scheduled to embark on a string of tour dates, including stops in various cities in Europe and the UK. Their live performances promise to capture the essence of their new album and take fans on a journey through their storied catalog of music.

Fans eagerly anticipating the reissue of Lost Paradise and the release of Ascension can pre-order both albums now. The continued evolution of Paradise Lost’s sound and their enduring impact on the metal scene solidify their status as legends within the genre. With a rich history spanning over three decades, Paradise Lost continues to captivate audiences around the world with their unique blend of gothic, doom, and death metal elements.
