Will Smith has made a bold entrance into the limelight once again, not mincing his words. On Apple Music’s “Fire in the Booth,” the versatile actor unleashes a raw, tongue-in-cheek freestyle that appears to be directed at his former adversary, Chris Rock. While he doesn’t mention names, the intended recipient of his message is crystal clear: “If you talking crazy out your face up on the stage and disrespect me on the stage, expect me on the stage.”

Smith doesn’t hold back, cautioning that some people can dish it out but can’t handle the retaliation: “Jokers dish it out, cry foul when it’s time to take it / City full of real ones, wasn’t raised to fake it.” In a candid expression, he revisits the infamous Oscars slap during his comeback album, “Based on a True Story,” which unfortunately didn’t make it to the Billboard 200. The opening track, styled like a barbershop conversation and featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone, includes lines like, “I heard he won the Oscar but he had to give it back – and you know they only made him do that shit because he’s Black” and “He’s only still relevant because of his kids.”

Continuing his no-holds-barred approach, in the track “You Lookin’ For Me?” he delves into his personal life, rapping: “Personal life with my wife – mind your business, it’s complicated.” Despite the powerful sentiments expressed in his freestyle, Chris Rock has not yet responded, but he may address it in his upcoming standup special.

Will Smith’s unfiltered lyrical expression reflects an artist unafraid to tackle controversial topics head-on, shedding light on personal experiences and challenges through his music. In his latest freestyle, he bravely addresses past conflicts and incidents, challenging those who have disrespected him while maintaining his authenticity and raw storytelling style. It remains to be seen how this musical retort will impact the ongoing narrative surrounding the Oscars incident and the wider public perception of both Will Smith and Chris Rock within the entertainment industry.
