Almost a year has passed since Aerosmith’s touring was put on hold due to Steven Tyler’s health issues. But according to guitarist Joe Perry, the band might not have concluded their journey just yet. Bassist Tom Hamilton had already left the door open to future band activities, and Perry’s recent comments affirm that there could be at least one more performance in store.

While Perry is gearing up for an upcoming tour with a revamped Joe Perry Project, incorporating members from Stone Temple Pilots and Black Crowes, there’s a glimmer of hope for an Aerosmith comeback. The logistical challenges of organizing a tour, especially for seasoned musicians like them, are not lost on Perry. The physical and emotional tolls of live performances are significantly higher as artists age, making the prospect of hitting the road again all the more daunting.

The realization of these challenges was instrumental in Aerosmith’s decision to take a hiatus, particularly after Tyler’s vocal injury during their Peace Out tour in 2023. The energy expended during live shows and the emotional connection with the audience take their toll on performers, culminating in the difficult decision to temporarily step back from the limelight.

Nevertheless, the band continues to engage in discussions about their future prospects. Perry reveals that talks among band members are a regular occurrence, with reflections on past performances and contemplations about what lies ahead. The possibility of not performing together again lingers in the background, but Perry asserts that there will be no regrets if that proves to be the case.

Perry’s optimism about a potential Aerosmith reunion is echoed in his dedication to every live performance, treating each show as if it were their last. A charity event in May saw Perry and Tyler briefly taking the stage, reigniting hopes for a future collaboration. Reflecting on their last formal show in 2023, the guitarist is eager for additional opportunities to perform alongside Tyler, despite the challenges presented by their age and recent global events.

As they navigate the uncertainties surrounding their future, the band members keep in touch regularly, acknowledging the hurdles they face. Perry acknowledges that the hiatus caused by the pandemic offered a unique perspective on life off the road, prompting a deeper appreciation for the comforts of home. While the path ahead remains uncertain, Perry remains hopeful that there will be more opportunities for Aerosmith to connect with their fans once again.
