The music landscape in Los Angeles is rich and varied, consistently producing fresh and exciting sounds across genres like metal, hip hop, folk, indie rock, and punk. Molly Horses, a post-punk band led by vocalist and guitarist Harry James alongside guitarist Cormac Shirer Brown, bassist Malcolm Watts, and drummer Tim Wright, embody a noisy and distorted approach to their music. With their upcoming album, “Clang Clang,” set to be released on July 25 via Solid Brass Records, a hometown label, there is already a buzz surrounding its impending drop. As a preview of what’s to come, the band has unveiled their latest single, “BABBA,” on July 1.

While Molly Horses may be based on the opposite coast, their roots tie back to the New England region, as James, Brown, and Watts hail from Maine. The thematic core of “BABBA” delves into the concepts of corruption and inequality, presented in a tense and angular fashion through the song’s music and lyrics. The band collectively describes the single as a reflection on the abuse of power and the discrepancy in consequences between the wealthy and influential individuals. The track features dynamic instrumentation, with busy and desperate guitars intertwining with sharp lyrical accounts of legal maneuvers and financial matters, ending abruptly with a nod to the unexpected mention of havarti cheese.

To celebrate the forthcoming release of “Clang Clang,” Molly Horses will host a live performance at Gold Diggers on Santa Monica Boulevard in their hometown, coinciding with the album drop. Presented by Desert Daze festival, the event will also feature Guck, with a DJ set by Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile. The band invites local music enthusiasts to attend this special occasion, immersing themselves in the sonic experience firsthand. For now, listeners can indulge in the initial taste of the album by tuning into the fiery track, “BABBA.”
