In a recent report presented at the France Music Week conference, a breakdown of the economic impact of music in France was disclosed. The report, developed by EY for We Are_, a French company, and various music-industry organizations, indicates that the direct added value of music to the French economy in 2024 was €2.8 billion, witnessing more than a 50% growth since 2019 – a growth rate 14 times higher than that of the French GDP. The music industry in France sustains 101,000 full-time equivalent jobs, with 30% of revenues attributable to exports.

Recorded music specifically saw an increase in its ‘added value’ from €868 million in 2023 to €929 million in 2024, accompanied by revealing statistics on consumer habits. The report highlights that French consumers are engaging more with music, particularly since the lockdowns, evidenced by an average weekly listening time increase of five hours over the past five years, peaking at 18 hours and 48 minutes per week. The younger demographic, aged 15 to 24, boasts an even higher listening time of 24 hours and 48 minutes per week.

The report underscores trends in the music industry and how consumer behaviors are evolving, causing significant economic impact and job creation. Stay in the loop by attending Music Ally’s free webinar series to receive valuable insights on the music business landscape.
