Saxon cancels several July and August shows due to medical emergency
The British metal band Saxon recently announced the unfortunate cancellation of a series of dates on their summer tour due to a medical emergency involving the band’s frontman, Biff Byford. Although the specifics of Byford’s situation were not disclosed, a statement from the band indicated that he will be in recovery for a minimum of six weeks, resulting in the cancellation of several shows scheduled for July and August.
The impacted performances include multiple festival appearances, such as Area 53 on July 12th, Sweden’s Öland Rock Festival on July 25th, Pol’And’Rock Festival in Poland on July 31st, Wacken Open Air on August 1st, E Town Rock in Finland, and the Summer Breeze Festival in Germany on August 16th. It was noted that Saxon will be present at the 2026 edition of Area 53.
In addition to the festival cancellations, club shows in Sweden on July 24th in Ekilstuna, 26th in Linköping, and 27th in Gävle, as well as performances at Turbinenhalle in Germany on July 29th, have also been affected. The band expressed regret at being unable to perform at these events but look forward to their scheduled appearances at both the Trutnoff Open Air Festival in the Czech Republic on August 23rd and Neuborn Open Air on August 29th. Furthermore, the upcoming tours of Spain, France, and the UK scheduled later this year remain highly anticipated.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Saxon is committed to performing as planned at the Rockharz Festival in Ballenstedt, Germany, on July 2nd. The band’s spokesperson emphasized that the health and wellbeing of Saxon’s members take priority, and while the cancellation is regrettable, they hope to return to the stage soon.
In conclusion, the unexpected medical emergency has led to a series of cancellations for Saxon’s summer tour, disrupting their festival and club show schedule. However, the band remains optimistic about future performances and is eagerly anticipating their upcoming tours in various countries. The band’s dedication to their craft and commitment to their fans shines through despite this setback.
