The Subways release updated version of iconic song ‘Rock & Roll Queen’
The Subways are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album, ‘Young For Eternity’, by releasing a fresh re-recorded version of their iconic track ‘Rock & Roll Queen’. This marks a significant milestone in the band’s career, and they plan to continue these celebrations throughout 2025. Following the release of their career-spanning compilation album ‘When I’m With You’ on October 17th, The Subways will embark on ‘The Subways For Eternity’ UK and European headline tour.
‘Rock & Roll Queen’ holds a special place in The Subways’ history, having been performed nearly 1059 times at their live shows. The track has amassed over 100 million streams and has become a staple on rock radio and streaming playlists. It was also featured in various media, including a Rimmel / Kate Moss ad campaign, ‘The OC’, and Guy Ritchie’s ‘RocknRolla’. Notably, the band performed the song on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’.
The new version of ‘Rock & Roll Queen’ showcases the evolution of the song over the years, driven by Billy Lunn’s raw vocals and featuring a powerful breakdown that enhances its explosive finale. Despite these updates, the track maintains its signature elements that fans love, including an infectious chorus, Charlotte Cooper’s backing vocals, and Billy’s passionate delivery.
‘When I’m With You’ offers a comprehensive overview of The Subways’ discography, mirroring their live performances. The compilation includes tracks like the high-energy debut single ‘Oh Yeah’ and the original version of ‘Rock & Roll Queen’, as well as fan favorites such as ‘With You’ and newer hits like ‘You Kill My Cool’. Additionally, the album features two new songs – ‘I Need To Feel You Closer’ and ‘Passenger’s Side’ – marking Camille’s album debut since joining the band in 2023.
Fans can pre-order ‘When I’m With You’ to receive exclusive physical products, including double white-and-black marbled vinyl with a signed insert, double red-vinyl, and CD formats. In support of the album, The Subways will perform at select festivals this summer, including dates in the UK and a headline set at Y NOT? festival. Following these appearances, the band’s ‘The Subways For Eternity’ tour will kick off in November, starting in the UK and extending into Europe. Tickets for the tour dates are now available for purchase, offering fans the opportunity to experience The Subways live in concert.
